.backdrop

This file contains the location of any file left out on the Workbench using the "Leave Out" menu item in the Icons menu. Each entry is listed by a colon followed by the path and filename.

.fastdir

This file contains information on which files are stored in the current directory and is used by some programs to read the directory faster.

.info

This file contains information such as an icon's graphical image (if appended to that file's names), or may be used to describe the current directory or device.

3D

Any object that has a measurable depth, length and width. Technique used in computer graphics to display moving, life-like images on a monitor.

3.5" disk

A type of floppy disk stored in a hard casing. Available in double sided and high density formats, supporting 880k to 1.76 megabytes using the Amiga. Some platforms, such as the IBM and Macintosh, only support 720k to 1.44 megabytes. Files written on one platform cannot be used on the Amiga without the aid of a file transfer program or file system device such as PC0. Although the casing of the disk is hard, the actual disk itself is made of flexible kevlar, and is considered a floppy disk.

5.25" disk

A type of flexible floppy disk used on the Commodore 64 and by IBM compatibles. These disks store approximately 50% the amount of data as a 3.5" floppy disk and are not used by the Amiga with the exception of reading Commodore 64 or IBM disks. Using 5.25" disks on the Amiga may require the use of the SYS:C/DiskChange command.

68K

The abbreviation for Motorola's 68000 series of central processing units. Includes processors such as the MC68000 and the MC68040. Also used to refer to the assembly language supported by these processors.

8SVX

The Amiga's IFF audio sample storage format.
