zap

The process of deleting or modifying a file. Some tools, such as NewZap, modify binary files, while it may also be used to refer to the removal of the file completely.

zenith

The area of the sky directly above the camera in a 3D world. This area is part of the sky not adjoining the horizon.

ZIP

A type of RAM chip used in the A3000 and some other computers and RAM expansion cards.

zip gadget

A window gadget designed to alter the size of the window, often toggling between a small size and a large size. Also referred to as a Zoom gadget.

zmodem

A file transfer protocol used over the serial port by terminal programs. Supports resumable transmission, error correction, and automatic receive recognition.

zoom

The process of enlarging the viewable area of an image or object without altering the actual image or object. Enlarged images are "Zoomed In" while reduced images are "Zoomed Out".

zoom gadget

A window gadget designed to alter the size of the window, often toggling between a small size and a large size. Also referred to as a Zip gadget.

zorro slot

An expansion slot in 16 BIT or 32 BIT wide data paths for adding hardware to a computer. Used to support products such as modems, RAM expansion, hard drive controllers, and emulators. In most models, adding a card to this type of slot requires the removal of the case of the computer. Internal Zorro slots also feature the ability to use external peripherals via custom external expansion ports with removable dust covers.
