It's safety in numbers.

Corolla excels in anticipation needs with a standard air bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) for both driver and front passenger. Also standard are responsive power-assisted 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and the knowledge that Corolla meets stringent Passenger Car Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for 1997. The fact is, most other cars don't.

Do a quick count and you'll see that all the features employed to help defend against the unexpected really add up: lightweight high-tensile-strength steel sheets welded into a rigid unibody construction; steel side-door impact beams that assist in deflecting the forces in certain types of side collisions; and a cabin roof supported by reinforced pillars at strategic points in the body wall. Equal attention has been paid to making the interiors a safety zone, with cushioned surfaces and edges that are rounded, not sharp. 3-point seatbelts and adjustable headrests at all outboard seating positions help hold passengers snugly in place. And it's easy to keep an eye on the rest of the world with a wide open window design that minimizes blind spots.

The Toyota driver and front-passenger air bags are a supplemental Restraint System (SRS) designed to inflate in a severer frontal collision. In all other accidents, the air bags will not inflate. To minimize the risk of sever crashes, all occupants must always wear seatbelts. Do not sit or place objects close to an air bag. Please read your Owner's Manual.

For added assurance, choose the optional Computer-controlled 4-wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS). The system modulates brake pressure to prevent lockup, assisting you in maintaining control during sudden or emergency stopping.

With the convenient front adjustable shoulder belt anchors, you select the setting to match your height so that the belt remains snug, but comfortable.
