The bending and torsional strength have been increased 25 and 12.5 percent respectively to match the enhanced performance. The chassis was modified in the forward section, at the front and rear suspension mounts, and also at the steering rack mounts. This was accomplished with tubes of various dimensions joined together by continuous welding.
For those components subject to extreme stress, a special chromium-molybdenum steel was utilized. The steel panels of the platform, rear bench, front and rear firewalls, pillars and roof are first welded together and then welded as one to the tubular structure of the chassis to form an extremely strong passenger compartment.
Every component in the front and rear suspension up to and including the wheel bearings has been redesigned resulting in a significant reduction in unsprung weight. The geometry of the camber recovery and the steering moment offset has been reconfigured and new shock absorbers and road springs have been incorporated.
The car has extraordinary driving characteristics. The new low-profile tires and 18" wheels not only increase grip and steering precision, but allow for lower tire pressures that provide a more supple ride. Total weight is reduced 40 kg resulting in nimbler and more responsive handling.
