In a car of this calibre, one expects interior amenities and luxury that reflect the stunning exterior. Special ergonomically designed sports seats, made of softly gathered Napa leather, add back and thigh support, reduce fatigue and ensure comfort--even on the longest trips. The 8-Series' seat-integrated belt system automatically adjusts to the front seat occupants' height, for maximum safety. The 850Ci and 850CSi include a voice-activated cellular telephone and trunk-mounted remote CD changer. The superb anti-theft AM/FM stereo system has 12 speakers, providing a refinement of sound quality that will delight even the most discerning audiophile.
Special extra touches abound.
Each time the doors are opened, the windows lower slightly; when the doors are closed they rise again for an airtight seal. Windows, the tilt/slide sunroof, memory settings for driver's seat, and a remote central locking alarm system are activated by a single touch. Interior lights turn on as the driver's door handle is lifted. Windows and sunroof can be closed or opened from the outside by holding the key in the lock or unlock position in either door. The rear seats can accommodate two passengers, or the individual seat backs can be folded down to provide flexible load-carrying space. The steering wheel automatically rises when the parking brake is set and the driver's door is opened, making entry and exit easy. Comfort and convenience are evident in every detail.
Putting the driver in command.
There is a special sensation you get in the 8-Series Sports Coupe--a sense of becoming one with this exciting automobile. BMW believes that an automobile should be designed to make the most of a driver's instincts for greater control. This is evident in the design of the interior--a cockpit instead of a cocoon. Controls are located "naturally"--to become an extension of the driver's arms, legs and eyes. Driving skills are optimized.
The instrument panel sweeps in toward the driver with instruments and controls exactly where your hand reaches instinctively. BMW's integrated on-board computer, Check/Control and Service Interval Indicator provide extensive travel-related and vehicle-monitoring functions. A micro-filtration system filters out pollen and other particles down to 5 microns, and reduces bacteria, smoke and dust. And individual temperature controls provide personalized comfort for driver and passenger.
Memory.
The driver's seat has a memory function that "remembers" three different seat positions and the related positions of the headrest and outside rear-view mirrors. At the touch of a button it electrically adjusts to the selected position, eliminating the need to search for your desired position after others have driven it--a time-saving convenience when parking attendants or family members have driven the car.
Micro-filtration system.
The micro-filtration system removes impurities from the air inside the car. Incoming air passes through an electrostatically charged micro-filtration system that filters out particles such as pollen, coal and asphalt dust, down to 5 microns. Bacteria, oil smoke, diesel smoke and atmospheric dust are some of the pollutants that are reduced.
Multi-Information Display (MID).
The MID combines all functions of the Check/Control monitoring system, Service Interval Indicator and on-board computer into one unit. All MID information is read out in the system's 20-character alpha-numeric display, which adjusts to day/night lighting automatically. Located in the center console above the audio control panel, the MID includes the time and date display; informs the driver of burned-out light bulbs, fluid levels, abnormal engine temperature or oil pressure; doors ajar; when maintenance is due; and numerous other functions throughout the vehicle.
Power tile/telescopic steering wheel with airbag SRS.
Easily adjustable to suit the driver's preference, the power tilt/telescopic steering wheel makes entry and exit easier by automatically moving up when the driver turns off the ignition, and returns to its preset position when the ignition is switched back on. Actuated by a stalk on the steering column's left side, the power adjustments are 1.6 inches fore-aft and 4.5 degrees of tilt.
