Puff #3, 1995:
Yes! Another summary of Puff for all of you to enjoy! ^^; Thanks to
the time and effort of the kawaii Cynthia! ^^;;;

The following information is from Puff #3, 1995:
- Maybe I will start from the back of the book this time. In next
month's Puff, there will be the announcement of all the manga
awards for 1994. The magazine will grow to 212 pages, and it will
cost 950 yen (instead of the normal 550 yen).
- There is a 2-CD set from "Ai no kusabi" called "Inori". It is a
"best" album with music. (No songs)
- There is also a CD with songs and drama from Nagano Noriko's otaku
manga "God Save The Sugekoma-kun!".
- I am sure all of you are familiar with the main different genres of
Japanese manga, such as shounen (boys), shoujo (girls), seinen (adult
male), josei (adult female), kodomo (children), H (porno), Yaoi....
And now, a new one appears! It is probably branched off
from the Ladies manga and its target audiences are ---- mama! A new
magazine "Mamanga" starts in January joins "Yanmama" (Young mothers)
which first appeared in Nov 94, and will be followed by the publishing
of "Chibisuke" published this month, all for mothers with babies!
Apart from information and essays about raising babies, they are
mainly manga. In the first issue of "Mamanga", manga by Egawa Tatsuya
(Magical Taruruto-kun, Tokyo University Story, etc) and essay by
Shiomori Keiko can be found.
- Another new manga magazine targeted at salarymen aged 25-30 appeared.
It is called Champion Jack and it will start on Mar 1, 250 yen, B5 size.
It will be published 2 times a month, on the 1st and 15th. So whose
work can be read in this adult manga magazine (just adult, not H)? Well,
in the first issue you can find manga by Mizushima Shinji (sp?) (Shoot!),
Ishinomori Shoutarou (very famous), Nagai Go (very famous too), etc.
- A book by Tezuka Osamu's wife is published recently, 1500 yen, Koudansha.
- Mangaka Fukuchi Housuke has passed away on Jan 5 in the hospital because
of illness (Bronchitis), aged 57. He did salaryman gag manga and also
wrote books about hobbies.

- In the latest Big Comic Original #4 (Feb 4), Takahashi Rumiko has a
new yomikiri manga called "Meisou kazoku Fire". It is about a murder
and a seem-to-be very happy family.
- Kouga Yun's long running work "Earthian" will finish in this month's
South. So will the strange manga "Fushigi no koku no shounen Alice".
Ozaki Kaori has a new yomikiri called "Honeymoon". I will do a
summary of Earthian when I get my copy of South.
- Yasuhiko Yoshikazu (Arion)'s long running historic manga "Anton"
will finish in the coming Comic Nora #4 (Feb 25).
- In this month's Wings (Feb 28), there will be a new manga by Katayama
Shou. Can anyone tell me what Shinohara Udou's manga last month is like?
- The first part of Watase Yuu's "Fushigi Yuugi" has finished in Shoujo
Comic #5 (Feb 4).
- A yomikiri by Shinohara Chie can be found in this month's Petite
Comic #4 (Feb 24).
- Itsuki Natsumi (OZ, Juuousei)'s "Yakumo Tatsu" begins again in
Lala #4 (Feb 24).
- Clamp's X will come back in Asuka #4 (Feb 24). (Everyone knows this

- In the manga review section this issue, there are reviews of Clamp's
"X" #6, Ozaki Minami's "Bronze" #6, Shinohara Udou's "Yoake no Vampire"
(based on Anne Rice's novel), Shibata Ami's "Scramble Suzumechan!",
Kawaguchi Madoka's "Shoujo ga kowareta toki" (a compilation of short
works), Ooya Kazumi's "Hyper Baby" #1, Kakinouchi Narumi's "Gogo 3ji
no mahou" #1, Kawahara Izumi's "Maple senki", Yabuuchi Yuu's "Karen" #1,
"Yuu Yuu Hakusho" #19, etc. I want them all!
- A special section on Iwaaki Hitoshi's "Kiseijuu", including an interview,
character chart and scenes and story brief. Iwaaki's favourite character
is Miggy. When asked "What would you do if a kiseijuu appears in front
of you suddenly?", he said "I wouldn't believe it even until I am
killed." ^_^; When asked about his influence, he said "Tezuka Osamu".
He said he is not good at interviews, and tidying up his room was the
thing he wanted to do most after Kiseijuu finished. He also said he used
to read Puff when he was in college.
- A big special on Okazaki Takeshi this issue. It consists of a long
interview, photographs of Okazaki, pictures of his manga covers, the
illustration of Dunbine he did for B-Club (Anyone remember Dunbine?),
scenes and story-clips from Elementalors, Koi, Lyrical Karen-chan,
Explorer Woman Ray and Countach, readers' messages and art, readers'
characters poll, messages for Okazaki from Clamp, Hagiwara Kazushi
(Bastard), other mangakas, his assistants, and editors from Newtype,
Comic Newtype, Shounen Ace, Comic Nora and Ace, and finally a message
from Puff editor. It is a very good special and Okazaki's fans should
not miss it.

The original titles and the magazines published of a lot of these works
are unknown even to Okazaki. Puff commented if any readers can remember
them, they are welcomed to inform Puff.
Maybe a lot of people will be interested in what Clamp said about Okazaki.
I will translate a bit of that here then. Igarashi Satsuki is looking
forward to the day Okazaki gets a bride. ^^; Ookawa Nanase looks forward
to the day that she can be the MC of his wedding as promised before. And
she is looking forward to the moment Clamp presents flowers to his parents
and cry together. ^^; Mokona Apapa asked him to quit smoking.
- There are pictures from the Comicket from Dec. Well, pictures of people
dressing up as characters. Some of them do make you worry.....
- Anime reviews include "Junkers come here" and "Please save my Earth" music
image video. The PSME one will be on sale Feb 24. The author of "Junkers
come here", Kine Naoto (ex-member of the popular group TMN) plays a voice
in the "Junkers" anime movie.
