This is the second `magical girl' series produced by Stadio
Pierrot, I believe (the first one is "Creamy Mami"), and loosely
based on the manga version. In the manga version, her boyfriend had
no twin brother. Animater Yumiko Horasawa made her mark on this

High school love-story which doesn't have quite as much angst or as
many people trying to steal other people's partners (as compared to

A resident of the Floating Castle that battle demon beings, the
girl Rasutel(Rasu), chosen by the willful lady, the Demon-Breaker
sword, is sent on a quest to save a princess kidnapped by a Youki.
Her quest is helped by a mysterious Youki called Anshu (but he
has basic color that usual Youkis do not have.... hehe!).
She is also hampered in her quest by her demon-being oriented
younger brother who seeks her golden eyes, the heritage of
their father, the Golden Youshu. (MIN)
Anime based on a shoujo novel (Cobalt Publishing) by Maeda Tamako
who is actually a very readable author. The OAV sucks big time.
Horrible character design compared to the original illustration,
and the story jerks along. (MIN)

I really liked the TV series, the manga had the advantage of not
resorting to "let's spend three quarters of this episode in a
series of flashbacks, to save money" syndrome, which the 2nd half
of the TV series was prone to doing. (RDL)

and KAZAMA Toshiaki. Complicated by Mitsuro's hesitation to accept
Toshiaki's very open declaration of love. Slightly complicated
by a bit of jealousy on the part of Mitsuro's younger brother
Hitoshi. (MAK)
The anime is not all that well done-the animation is very static,
and the story jumps around a lot, so if you haven't read the manga,
you lose a lot of the impact. However, should be watched just to
support the fledgling shounenai video market. I wholeheartedly
recommend the manga. (MAK)

In WW2 Europe, a little girl named Jeudi who suffered from amnesia,
was found by Lundi on the Alps. Lundi lives with his aunt and
uncle, who maltreated them. One day Lundi angered the local
nobility by trying to rescue Jeudi's parrot Printemps, and the
nobleman was determined to have Jurdi. So the two escaped and went
on a search for Jurdi's identity...(CSP)
Manga is superior in character design and story board. Nice BGM,
since one of the major characters is a piano prodigy. (CSP)

The title refers to the main protagonist's dislike of Christmas.
This work is a fine example of how a shoujo anime treats the

This anime is tied up with the debut and promotion of a real
singer, TAMURA Eriko. (AAK)

Youko is a very very strange girl (with pink hair) who wants to be
a singer, and she decides to go to Shibuya. In the travel she meets
Saki, another girl about her age who wants to be an actress (and
for that reason she runaway from her house). The both starts to
live in Shibuya and they made a lot of friends, they work, they
sing, etc...Youko finally could sing and got a relative fame but
Saki only had the chance for appear in a theatrical release one
time (but she can't ). This series didn't have a coherent argument
and you never discover Youko origins. (ZAM)
Another show-biz anime by the creator of "Idol Densetsu Eriko".
The texture is much light-hearted than "Eriko". Casting include
KANAI Mika and MIZUTANI Yuuko. (AAK)

Chitose Fujinomiya was a proud student of Tokaino Junior-High,
which is for those from rich and high class family. Her ordinary
life collapsed all the sudden as her father went bankrupt, and she
had to leave the school. Desperate Chitose founds a new Inakano
Junior-Highschool, putting her valued pet, Gyopi-chan (the only
goldfish in the world which can fly!) as a collateral. And so,
new school life of Chitose(or rather, Chii-chan) with Wapiko,
Aoi-chan, Shu-chan, and other wacky friends begins...(AAK)
A pure comedy anime with lovable characters, and this is director
SATO Jun'ichi's specialty. And, comedic style of this title
inevitably influenced his next work, "Sailor Moon" anime. (AAK)

is hit. At that time a contender for the position of #1 Kendo
player in Japan, Ranmaru is lucky just to walk again. The two are
settling into life together at college when Kei's younger half-
brother, SAGANO Kai, steps onto the stage, to become Kei's rival.

Animation-wise, this one is a little better rendered than the
other-it moves a little more-but the story is still rather unclear.

and her two wicked children. The second part of the series
introduces an eleven year old Lynn who now studies in Saint Patrick
School, famous for Horse riding. She will develop a rivalry with
Mylene, the captain of the school equestrian team. Also, Lynn tried
to gain the love of her grandfather, who ignored her. Will Lynn
become a great Lady? Just watch the end of the anime. (RIV)

of yaoi manga, which led to the creation of a much larger work,
"Kaze to Ki no Uta", now deemed as a classic. This anime is

present bake-neko (a cat monster), a mysterious 'eleki' (electric
gadgetry and dolls) master enemy who wants to kill Awakumo, a
beautiful boy, Tsukiya, also of the enemy, yet who wants to escape
his bondage, Shougun, who's later found out to be Awakumo's
biological father...(MIN)
One strange jidaigeki (historical theatrics), filled with action,
fantasy, and romance. OAV probably centers around the thieving
stories of manga volume 1 and 2. (MIN)

A story of love and hatred set against a private girl school and
deals with the controversial subject of lesbianism. Title comes
from the fact that the protagonist always writes a letter to his
brother describing her school life. (HBV)
Excellent animation and plot. Despite Ikeda's own outdated drawing
style (this very controversial and provocative manga was published
in 1974), Osamu Dezaki and Akio Sugino managed to produce it in a
style fairly up to date and ensured that this is a collectable
item. The touchy subject promptly had the anime banned in France
after airing a few episodes. (HBV)

The story of a 14 year old girl falling in love with a 26 year old
fashion designer. (HBV)
I don't really like it, though the original manga (which I've read
two or three volumes of) was very popular. Technically, I suppose
it's fairly well made, but it just doesn't "ring true," and I think
the reason is that all mainstream anime are produced and directed
by men, and when they animate a shoujo manga, they do so not from
a woman's/girl's point of view, but as men in their thirties and
forties (who usually do shounen anime) trying to imagine what might
appeal to a teenage girl, and usually failing miserably. (MAT)

the servant girl of a wealthy family because her family cannot
afford to feed her. O-Shin is hard working, and her thirst for

Accompanying them was a cyborg sent by her brother. But Oz was not
the paradise it seemed and her brother was not as sane as he was

What I like especially about this is the theme of whether a
programmed machine, ie, the cyborg, can have feelings. Apparently,
the cyborg's programming went awry (female mind inside a male's
body) and he began to have a personality of his own. (LAP)

Patalliro is a obnoxious boy king of the island producing kingdom
called Marinera. Bancoran is a bishounen (and gay) agent of MI-6
who was assigned to protect Patalliro when he was in England.
Maraihi is a young (14 yr old) bishounen (and also gay) assassin
that the Diamond Syndicate sent out to take out Patalliro.
Bancoran rapes Maraihi, Maraihi falls in love with Bancoran,
Patalliro falls in love with both of them, and this sets the stage
for the later episodes...(DOC)
A wacky out-of-the blue, nothing is sacred comedy. Recommended
for those who like Monty Python or Dr. Slump. (HBV)

Anime had two different director-animater team; NAGAHAMA
Tadao and ARAKI Shingo for the first half, DEZAKI Osamu and SUGINO
Akio for the last half of the series. The first series featured
lavishly beautiful artwork by ARAKI, though the scripts seemed
rather weak; the second series significantly altered the original
manga, but created astonishingly dramatic story with dynamic
artwork. Great shoujo manga classic by IKEDA Riyoko and great
anime with two different styles, both definitely worth to check

sometimes funny, sometimes touching coming-of-age story, but if you
look beyond the surface, you can find some profound insights about
what it means to be a "girl," what it means to be a "woman," what
it means to be a "mother," and also about the frightening aspects
of growing up. (MAT)
The anime is fairly well-made (by Tezuka Productions), and
manages to capture some (but not all) of Oshima's brilliant manga's
depth, but I thought it was miscast. Definitely worth checking out.

Yaki and Jita are two high school girls who somehow find themselves
changing school often together because, where ever they go, they
get involved in school trouble and they end up fighting them, ergo
having to leave the school to avoid complications later. Yes, our
Yajima Junko, aka Yaji-san, and Shinokita Reiko, aka Kita-san, are
majorly skilled in fight martial arts. The basic premises of this
serial type series is, "Yaji and Kita transfers to another high
school, find that they again end up in the same school
unintentionally, gets involved in trouble (again), they fight to
correct it (again), and then move on (again) because either a) they
are forced by the school principal, or b) they decide they should
move, or c) they attract too much followers after their bravado
that they need to escape fast." (MIN)
It is, at the essence, a tv jidaigeki (historical theatrics)
parody. Adding spice to the story, Yaji-san usually attracts kobuns
(male henchmen) because she has the anego-hada (sisterly
disposition), and Kita-san attracts lots of females because she is
most wonderful in shorts and pants and hair down!!!! It's cruelty
to us Kita-san fan to have her wear skirts, hair pulled up and with
glasses!!!! Kita-san usually attracts female because, in all
essence, she is the most perfect male whose gender is female. OAV
1 has original story while OAV 2 is loosely based upon manga story
episode 2. (MIN)
