Egor Ivanovich Zolotarev

Died: 19 July 1878 in St Petersburg, Russia

Zolotarev attended lectures by Chebyshev at St Petersburg. His doctoral dissertation was on algebraic integers. Then he made two trips abroad, attending lectures by Kummer, Weierstrass and having discussions with Hermite.

In a short eleven year career Zolotarev produced fundamental work on analysis and number theory. His career ended when he fell under a train and died shortly after of blood poisoning.
