Kazimierz Zarankiewicz

Zarankiewicz studied at Warsaw where he wrote a Ph.D. on connected sets. He was appointed to Warsaw University but in 1944 he was sent to a labour camp in Germany. He returned to Warsaw and resumed his teaching duties in 1946 at Warsaw Polytechnic.

Zarankiewicz did important work in topology and graph theory. He also wrote on complex functions and number theory. His work on triangular numbers inspired Sierpinski to further work while Zarankiewicz worked jointly with Kuratowski on topology.
