Edwin Wilson was a student of Gibbs and produced a textbook on vector analysis based on Gibbs' lectures. In 1912 he published the first American advanced calculus text.

Wilson also worked on aeronautics, probability and statistics. he was the first to study confidence intervals, later rediscovered by Neyman.
