Walther von Dyck was an assistant to Klein, becoming professor at Munich Polytechnikum.

He made important contributions to function theory, group theory (where a fundamental result on group presentations is named after him) topology and potential theory.

Von Dyck's many interests included art and music. He also played a major role in university administration.
