Szász received his doctorate in 1911 from Budapest. From 1914 he lectured in Frankfurt, being a colleague of Bieberbach for 6 years.

Szász's main work was in real analysis, particularly Fourier series. Szász lost his post in 1933. He emigrated to the USA and taught at Cincinnati from 1936 until his death.
