Servois worked in projective geometry, functional equations and complex numbers. He introduced the word pole in projective geometry. He came close to discovering the quaternions before Hamilton.

Servois was critical of Argand's geometric interpretation of the complex numbers. He was consulted by Poncelet while he was writing a book on projective geometry.
