Saks worked in real analysis, in particular measure theory and functional analysis. He attended the University of Warsaw and was appointed to the Technical University of Warsaw in 1921. Saks became a colleague and friend of Zygmund who was appointed one year later. His work was influenced by Sierpinski who was at the University of Warsaw, and also by Luzin's work.

When war broke out in 1939 he retreated with the army to Lvov and worked with Banach in the Soviet held town for 2 years. In 1942 the Germans occupied Lvov and Saks returned to Warsaw where he was killed by the Gestapo (he was of Jewish origin).
