Pieri was a member of Peano's Italian School of Geometers.

He taught at Turin and, in 1900, following a competition, became professor at the University of Catania.

Pieri worked mainly on projective geometry but also studied the foundations of mathematics, in particular the foundations of geometry. He improved on results of Pasch and Peano with his axiomatic system for geometry.
