Naimark worked in Moscow and became professor at the Steklov Institute. He worked on roots of algebraic equations, functional analysis and group representations. He made a detailed analysis of the infinite-dimensional representations of the semisimple Lie groups.

In all Naimark wrote 123 papers and 5 books, making important contributions to Hilbert spaces, Banach algebras and unitary representations of matrix groups.
