He studied algebraic geometry, algebraic curves and invariant theory. Together with Heinrich Weber and Klein, he founded the Encyclopädie der Mathematisches Wissenschaften which was a massive project producing 20 volumes between 1900 and 1930.
Meyer wrote many articles and was an exceptional editor since he had written 2000 reviews for Fortschritte der Mathematik .
