Anatoly Ivanovich Malcev

Died: 7 July 1967 in Novosibirsk, USSR

Malcev's doctorate was supervised by Kolmogorov at Moscow University where he became a professor in 1944. His work was in algebra and logic and he proved a series of important results in group theory.

Malcev also studied Lie groups and topological algebras, producing a synthesis of algebra and mathematical logic. He received many honours for his work.
