Libri's early work was on the theory of heat. He produced a major work on the history of Italian mathematics Histoire des sciences mathématique en Italie published in 4 volumes between 1838 and 1841. It concerned the history from Roman times up to Galileo. The book was written in French and Libri became a French citizen in 1833 and lived and worked in Paris later in his career.
