Hyman Levy's main work was in numerical methods and statistics. He studied at Edinburgh, Oxford and Göttingen, then worked most of his life in Imperial College in London.

One of Levy's most important works was Numerical Studies in Differential Equations (1934).

He was a member of the British Communist Party until he visited Russia in 1956, saw the persecution of Jewish intellectuals, and gave up Marxist views.
