La Faille was a disciple of Saint-Vincent, who he met in Antwerp. He taught at Louvain and Madrid. He made expeditions to Naples, Sicily and Catalonia.

La Faille is famed for a work in 1632 in which he was the first to determine the centre of gravity of the sector of a circle.
