Adolf Kneser

Born: 19 March 1862 in Grüssow, Germany
Died: 24 Jan 1930 in Breslau, Germany (now Wroclaw, Poland)

Kneser was taught by Kronecker and also influenced by Weierstrass. After writing a thesis on algebraic functions and equations, he worked on space curves.

Kneser's main work was in two areas. One area is that of linear differential equations, in particular he worked on the Sturm-Liouville problem and integral equations in general.

The second main area of his work was the calculus of variations.
