Died: 28 March 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, USA

Ernst Hellinger was a student of Hilbert and introduced a new type of integral the Hellinger integral . Jointly with Hilbert he produced an important theory of forms. He was appointed to a chair at Frankfurt in 1914.

Forced to retire in 1936 because he was a Jew, Hellinger was put into a concentration camp in 1938 but was released 6 weeks later on condition he leave the country immediately. He went to the USA.
