Honoré Fabri

Died: 8 March 1688 in Rome, Italy

Fabri was ordained in 1635. He was a friend and correspondent of Gassendi. He worked on astronomy, physics and mathematics. Fabri studied Saturn's rings, the theory of tides, magnetism, optics and calculus.

In calculus he was closer to Newton than to Cavalieri and his notation was cumbersome. He computed

(Integral) x^nsin x dx, (Integral) sin^nx dx

and other integrals. He had a major influence on the development of the calculus through Leibniz. His students include Cassini, La Hire and Dechales.
