Nikolai Grigorievich Chebotaryov

Died: 2 July 1947 in Moscow, USSR

Chebotaryov obtained a doctorate from Kiev with a doctoral thesis on Frobenius's problem. He became professor at Kazan University in 1928 and remained there all his life.

Chebotaryov worked on the algebra of polynomials, Galois theory and did important work on resolvants. He generalised Dirichlet's theorem on primes in an arithmetical progression giving a method used by Artin in 1927.
