Niels Bohr received his doctorate from the University of Copenhagen in 1911. He was a physicist, the founder of quantum theory, and he became director of the Institute for Theoretical Physics in 1920.

He is best known for his investigations of atomic structure and radiation, for which he won the 1922 Nobel Prize for physics. In 1913 published three papers of fundamental importance on the theory of the atom that influenced Einstein and other scientists.
