About the Author

Hi!  My name's Michael Richmond and I am sixteen years old.  I am a keen
musician, I write for the MED Users Group disk magazine, I am a (failed ;-)
AMOS programmer and a certified Championship Manager addict.  The reason for
this section is that all so often you get a new program and it is totally
characterless.  I decided that CLIndex shouldn't be another faceless 
Licenceware release, but to be fun.  I like to think of all C.L.Index 
purchasers as one big family.  (Of course all the above is just lies.  I had
a gap in the window and I wanted to fill it up...)

I started this project on 2/8/93 out of sheer frustration about Commodore's
"Using the Amiga Workbench" manual.  Now don't get me wrong - it's not a 
bad book (Have you read the C64 manual?  Or how about the MPS 1230 manual!)
but where it trips up is the list of CLI commands.  How is a beginner meant
to know what a link is?  I only found out a few months ago!  And have you
read the list of script commands?  if not, read it.  It is just a list.  No
help, no sign of If's parameters.  Just a list.

And if you bought an A1200... well, what a nice CLI manual you got!!!

So with C.L.Index (I don't know what C.L. stands for but it neatly shortens
to C.L.I.) I hope to expand on what Commodore say.  I do suggest that you
read Chapter 7 (as I fondly know it) because it does teach you the basics,
but when you need to expand your knowledge, turn to C.L.Index.  This disk
will neither teach you the basics (CBM should do that) nor teach you to be an
expert (there are plenty of reference books to do that) but it tries to be 
a `stop gap' between beginners and experts.  Commodore don't agree.  They
jump straight from opening a CLI window to writing scripts.  If they tell
you anything at all.

There have been disks like C.L.Index before.  I have an old (©1986!) 
shareware program called DOS Helper but it only covers (I think) Workbench 
1.2.  A similar product was reviewed in the Amiga mags last yaer, but that 
cost £20.  You can get a good AmigaDOS book for less than that!

I hope you enjoy using C.L.Index as much as I enjoyed writing it.  (not at 
all :-)  I would like to regularly update this program so if you have any 
comments or problems, write to me and I will try to fix them in the next
