Sporting events in the Panic Society

	The horrible tragic accident that occurred at the Ramstien 
airshow in West Germany, in which over 50 spectators were burned 
to death and over 500 were badly injured, prompted the Western 
Governments in Europe, who had ignored protest by Your Glorious 
Leaders that were trying to stop those airshows because they said 
they were too dangerous, to listen to Your Glorious Leaders and 
ban all such air shows. Another nasty air show crash occurred in 
New Deli, India, on October 8, 1989. Many people were injured. 

	There were many other "dangerous sports" in the 20th 
century. People were being killed or injured during soccer games 
in Europe. Example, April 15, 1989. 93 people were killed and 
over 200 injured when spectators rushed into Hillbrough Stadium 
in Sheffield, England. People were crushed against goalpost 
barriers and finally knocked it down. The game had just started. 
More fans were crushed as they poured onto the playing field. The 
game ended up being rescheduled. 

	English soccer fans seemed to behave the worst. During the 
1990 world championship games in Italy, english fans started 
fights, smashed store windows and went on a wild rampage. 20 
people needed hospital treatment. 246 soccer fans were rounded up 
and expelled by Italian authorities. 

	On July 4, 1990, the English soccer team was beaten by the 
German team 4 to 3. The players on both teams played a rough and 
tumble game. However, team members were very well behaved and 
polite to each other and their opponents.

	The fans were another story. Drunken British fans attacked 
German citizens, smashed German cars, looted stores, and 
generally went crazy. Over 500 fans were arrested. Even in 
England, Drunken fans went crazy and rioted. One German was badly 
injured by being stabbed by a British fan. 

	Fans themselves could also be ripped off by the people in 
charge of events. During the 1991 Wimpleton tennis events, it 
rained three days in a row. The heavy rain resulted in the 
cancellation of most of the events. The spectators were screwed 
out of $26 each day that was cancelled. They had paid in 
advanced. Even one of the players was fined $5000 for not showing 
up to play for an event that got cancelled. 

	And, some of those players were the worst examples of 
sportsmanship. John MacInrow every year, gets into a big fight 
with the officials. He uses foul language, smashes the tennis 
racket on the ground, destroys the refreshment stands, and even 
yells obscenities at the spectators. He does this almost each 
time that he loses a match. He seldom makes much money as he is 
constantly being fined for his outrageous behavior. 

	One skater even went so far as to hire a thug to club her 
opponent in the knee in order to keep her from having a chance at 
winning a gold metal in the evil olympics

	Fans were even worse. One of them stabbed a womyn tennis 
player because she was beating her opponent. (she should have let 
the opponent win).

	The running of the bulls caused many deaths and injuries 
each year in Spain. Your Glorious Leaders screamed that this 
event was cruel to the bulls. 

	The Sport of Boxing is a sport where the object is to cause 
serious injury to your opponent. There were many deaths and 
severe injuries in boxing. Your Glorious Leaders screamed long 
and loud to get professional boxing banned. 

	Auto racing was very dangerous to drivers and spectators. So 
was powerboat racing. People were dying from horrible skiing 
accidents. many died from drowning. You could be beaned from a 
golf ball, a baseball, or a football. Biking, jogging, and all 
other personal sports also resulted in deaths or injuries. 

	Monster Truck events are very exciting, However, they are 
also very dangerous. Example, June 7th. 6 yr old Todd L. Abbot of 
kalamazoo was killed instantly when he was crushed by a monster 
truck that went out of control during a race and crashed into 
spectators. 12 others were badly injured. March 7, 1992, Lester 
Gilliam was killed by an out of control monster truck. 

	Most sporting events used a nickname and mascot as part of 
the event. Your Glorious Leaders were outraged over the use of 
such nicknames. 

	"The American Indian Movement (AIM) went on the warpath in 
an effort to force athletics teams to abandon names such as the 
Chiefs and Indians. Braves and Redskins.

	Your Glorious Leaders argue that these nicknames are 
insulting, and that ethnic and racial groups should not be used 
as mascots for sports teams. 

	It didn't stop with the Indians. 

	How about Notre Dame's Fighting Irish? Or the Boston 
Celtics, Minnesota Vikings (offensive to Norweigian Americans) , 
Montreal Canadians, Vancouver Canucks, Dallas Cowboys, New York 
Yankees, New England Patriots, North Carolina Tarheels, Nebraska 
Cornhuskers , Michigan State Spartans and USC Trojans (offensive 
to people of Mediterranean descent) , Idaho State Vandals (named 
after a tribe in Central Asia), West Virginia Mountaineers , the 
Pittsburgh Pirates, and so on. 

	Even the Miami Dolphins may be at risk: A group of Your 
Glorious Leaders in California are trying to get a judge to 
extend citizenship to dolphins - yes, those lovable water mammals 
- in U.S. territorial waters." (clip OCR Scan Gladwin County

	Hangliding, flying, bunji jumping, and parachuting were 
super dangerous. You could not be insured if you were involved in 
such a sport. 

	A high school hockey player, in Fond Du Lac, Wis. died when 
he was struck in the chest with a hockey puck during a hockey 
game. Many other students at schools have been badly injured or 
died while playing football, basketball, track, swimming, 
cheerleading, etc.

	Many professional sports people are killed or injured in 
sports ranging from auto racing to baseball each year. Many of 
them suffer injuries and deaths that occur because of the 
violence of those sports. 

	Sometimes, they will die because they are just out there 
playing the game. During a NCAA basketball game played March 4, 
1990, Hank Gathers, a rising young basketball star, collapsed and 
died on the court after shooting a basket. 

	There are also great pressures put on those sport athletic 
to excel in those sports. Many of those players end up taking 
steroids in order to build up muscle mass. This dangerous drug 
then can cause cancer and other severe problems. 

	As the sport heros become famous, they soon succumb to the 
fame and easy money. Many of them soon end up on booze and drugs, 
which results in destroying their career and can end up killing 
them. 

	There was rampant drug use among sports heros. Denny McClain 
was one of the first Baseball heros to be dethroned by the use of 
drugs. Last year, A superstar to be in basketball had just signed 
a contract. He celebrated with some friends that gave him 
cocaine. His first use of this drug was fatal. A great Hockey 
players career has been destroyed at 25 by his abuse of drugs and 
alcohol. A great Canadian track and field star was stripped of 
his gold metals when he tested positive for steroids. A diving 
great became a not so great and is now in prison as a result of a 
homicide caused by his drunken driving. And this list of examples 
is endless. 

	Finally, there was the riotous behavior of fans that 
attended those sporting events. 

	Numerous fights and riots broke out during soccer matches in 
Europe. In the US games were often interrupted by unruly fans 
that tossed things on the playing field, threw cans, bottles, 
insults and even got into fights with officials and players. 

	Live coverage of a sport could be a nightmare. Championship 
Tennis Matches are particularly difficult when John McEnroe is 
playing. Live coverage has to be put on a time delay so that 
network censors can bleep out McEnroe's foul language and temper 
tantrums. 

	Championship games were the worst. Some never got completed 
because fans tore down goal post, ripped up playing fields, etc. 
Riots often took place in home towns. The latest example was when 
U of M won the basketball championships for 1989. The destruction 
of the downtown looked like a tornado had struck. Dozens were 
injured in the celebration riots that followed. 

	The city of Detroit was trashed by riots of celebration as 
the Detroit Pistons won the NBA championship title. On June 14, 
1990, they won their second championship in a row. The resulting 
riots by celebrating fans resulted in 9 deaths, 200 serious 
injuries, and untold million of dollars in damage to stores as a 
result of the looting and violence. 

	On November 16, 1991, over 3000 fans rioted after the end of 
the CMU game in Mount Pleasant. They overturned cars, torched 
buildings, and fought with police. 33 were arrested and over 
$100,000 in damage was done. 

	At the end of the NBA championship game which was won by the 
Chicago Bulls in June 1992, fans rioted in the street. They turn 
over cars, smashed windows, looted stores, started fires, etc. 
Over 1000 arrests were made. This riot repeated itself in 1993 
when Chicago won again.

	Hunting and fishing was also found to be very dangerous. 
Every year in Michigan, 20 to 30 hunters die as a result of heart 
attacks, or shooting accidents as they go into the woods to 
murder the poor helpless animals. 

	Fishermen are drowning all the time when they either fall 
into the water, or fall through thin ice. You could get a fish 
hook through your finger or eye. Also, some of those game fish 
had very sharp teeth or contaminated with toxic chemicals.

	An additional danger was the huge fines that you could end 
up paying if a game warden was in the area. You could be accused 
of snagging walleye if the fish ate off the bait on your hook. If 
your kid was fishing and you didn't have a licence, (perfectly 
legal) you would be accused of fishing without a licence the 
minute you touched your kid's pole or touched his fish. It could 
be a very expensive experience.

	TV watching of sports was just as dangerous. Fans often 
endangered their health by becoming couch potatoes when they 
consumed large quantities of junk food and beer while watching 
sporting events. Irate TV fans often got killed or injured by 
exploding TV sets when those sets were damaged by shoes, bats, 
beer cans, etc. A lot of domestic violence also occurred. The 
classic example was when TV executives were almost murdered by 
fans and sponsors for cutting short a Superbowl game that ran 
overtime in order to show the movie feature of the day, Heidi. 
(The team that was losing at the time scored a winning 
touchdown). There were many injuries that day as a result of 
exploding picture tubes. 

	In short, all sports are considered to be hazardous to your 
health, offensive to a minority group, or cruel exploitation of 
animals.

	Your Glorious Leaders felt a great need to protect people 
from such hazards. To protect us from ourselves, the Panic 
Society has banned all sporting activity and other forms of 
outdoor or indoor recreation. 

	There will be no deaths or injuries caused by a sporting or 
recreation activity. Minorities will not be offended by the 
nicknames and mascots used on those event. Animals will no longer 
be exploited in such cruel blood sports.
