So why does the name imply A1200 - only I hear you ask. Well after the games were completed they were too slow on my A500, thus the name change. I N T R O D U C T I O N ----------------------- BULL/HYPE/ANYTHING WHICH COMES TO MY HEAD/MODE * ON *: Have you ever been at home, relaxing and generally having a day off when the door knocked, and when you opened it guess who...friends that you haven't seen for the last 20 years have come to visit..... So, you invite 'em in and hand 'em a cup of tea. There you are, all of you just sitting there. Nothing to talk about whatsoever. Then you have an idea - why not play some state - of - the art games on your Amiga! You think playing a two player beat 'em up will be fun. When you eventually find it, you realise it's on four bloody disks, and when you start playing, it takes an age to load - how disgraceful. At this moment you start cursing the developers because it's not HD installable. Oh no!! what will your friends (even if you have forgot their names) think of you?! It's true and it does happen - all that trouble, all that heartache, all that pain can be saved (Okay, so it hasn't happened to you, still....) What you need is 2PLAYER GAMES from Power.... Featuring two addictive, playable games inspired by the most historic games of all time, these will really lift your image when you want something to play when your friends are 'round (if you've got no-one to play with - tough!!). Following are the instructions for each game..... * * * F A T A L B L O W S * * * * T H E G A M E -------------- Fatal Blows is a two - player fighting game in which two players will take part in a three round bout. The player which wins best out of three wins - simple as that! That's the basics but there are some other things as well. If the time runs out the person with the most energy remaining wins. If both players have the same energy then the person who gets hit next loses. If both people say, punch each - other at the same time, both get hit. If they hit each - other but with different moves, the person who performed the stronger move prevails e.g P1 punches, P2 kicks, if they both hit at the same time P2 will prevail and P1 will be hit because a kick is stronger than a punch. The point of this is to encourage players to use the right moves. It is possible for a player to move outside of the screen. However, if this does happen that player begins to lose energy. This adds another dimension of play to the game as now you can not only try to beat the hell out of the opposition but also punch them, and keep them, off the screen. O P T I O N S ------------- If your getting sick of consistently picking options then keep pressing ENTER - this will enable the default settings. The only option which needs a bit of explanation is the handicap levels. This is very straight forward. If you choose the 'good' setting then your moves will have a smaller effect on your opponent so, where normally a Power Ball may have deducted 10 energy points, now will only deduct 5. If your not very good (or totally crap) at the game choose the 'hopeless' setting which will enable you to take more energy. So instead of 10, a Power Ball will deduct 20. If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about - EXPERIMENT!! This I feel, is a useful option simply because it enables you to play someone who is not good at the game. You have the freedom to adjust the power of the moves to players of various abilities. Now the fun bit.... Tornado Kick - - - - - Diagonal away down & double click fire I M P O R T A N T ! ! ! * ALL special moves can be performed in MID AIR!! This allows for many stunning combination attacks.... ** ALSO ** * The Master Uppercut can be performed 'through' most other moves. E.G You are performing a Power Ball, suddenly the opponent jumps to Flying Kick you, if you are fast enough, you can perform a Master Uppercut 'through' which - ever move you are doing which results in a very seriously bruised opponent! * TWO (yes two!) Power Balls can be performed at any time. Trying to perform another one will result in nothing as your player is then too exhausted to perform another one (sorry - couldn't think of anything better!). Smash your opponents head in - and ENJOY!! On to the next... * * * * S U P E R S P A C E B A L L '93 * * * * First choose wether you want sound on (if you've got enough RAM you can take the sound FX off and have your favourite soundtracker module playing in the background) then after choosing the controls for player 2 your off! This game is very simple - don't let the ball pass your bat or you lose a life (I told you it was simple!). There are bonus pills which will come randomly which will either give you a bigger bat for a limited period, extra points or believe it or not - a missile! You'll find out which is which as you play. When you have the missile just press fire (or mouse button, depending on what your using) to release it. It will home - in on your opponent and (hopefully) smash the other bat to pieces, losing the other player a life. When your 'serving' make sure your not moving too fast when you release the ball or your speed and agility will back - fire! And that's it really. KEYBOARD CONTROLS ----------------- Quit from current program - < CONTROL > C Switch to next program - < AMIGA > A The games are Multitasking affairs (this ain't no PC!!) so the more programs you have running in the background, the slower it will run (walk?). *TIP*: For all you A1200 owners out there (yes you, the ones with a machine which costs £300 and has 16 million colours, digital stereo sound, a multi - tasking OS, millions of screen modes, thousands of games, trillions of total programs, the best PD in the whole wide world (hint!) and, and..... well, I could go on but I wouldn't want to embarrass those sad boffins who enjoy games with jerky scrolling and whose highlight of the day (life?) is moving the cursor across the screen in Word for Windows in under three years!!!) On to the next bit... WAIT!! WAIT!! I almost forgot that tip!! If you load a game and all the screen is messed up, keep switching between screens (AMIGA and A). Eventually when you switch to the game all should be well. Alternatively you can just quit (CONTROL and C) and load it again. SOURCE CODE ----------- I may not be an expert programmer, but I'm sure someone will find my code useful. If you would like the source to any of the games, send a stamped, addressed envelope, a blank disk and £1. If you would like the source to both games kindly include the grand sum of £1.50 (but still one disk). Remember to include a note telling me which game code to send! Since I thought of this idea I've tried to include some more comments where ever possible but their still not the most commented programs in the world. See the end (does this waffle really end?!) of file for the address. OTHER STUFF I COULDN'T THINK UP A TITLE FOR ------------------------------------------- Both games were programmed by me (Aahh, fame!) using AMOS. The graphics were drawn using DPaint3 and DPaint4 AGA and are by Mohammed Iqbal. The machine used for the making of the games was an A500+ but near the end I came to my senses and purchased an A1200 with 80 Meg HD. Consequently I discovered that playing on an A1200 makes the games more fun to play (and easier to write!!). Other things which came in useful are Mars bars, Coke bottles, magazines to read while the A500+ was taking ages to load AMOS and special thanks to anyone who was sitting next to me while a nasty bug came up and as a result ended up with my fist in their mouth - you guys really helped me let off some steam! If after playing Fatal Blows your thinking 'why are there only two characters?' it's because AMOS is too slow. I actually had the game running with the two characters and 'championship edition' ie both players could be the same character. From a coding point of view was like having four different characters. Wether or not it was my programming or AMOS is one of the worlds greatest mysteries, but whatever it was the game was too slow so I scrapped the idea. These are our first games, so if you think they're not very good - your probably right, but it still doesn't mean we didn't sweat our asses off to make 'em! By the way watch out for a SegTendo smashing Amiga CD32 version soon.....
