Release notes
=============

30/Sep/98

The current revision of PFS II is 17.8.

Installation
------------

> Install PFS2 V4.2 using the icon. DO NOT copy files directly from the
  CD onto you harddrive.

> 'unable to compile' error when installing

You are using an obsolete version of Installer.
Use Installer V43.3 or better which can be found on WB 3.1 or Aminet.

> DMAMask

If you don't have memory problems you should use the same mask as FFS/AFS
did. The mask is filesystem independent.

For the A1200/A4000 internal IDE controller use 0xfffffffc.
For ZorroIII boards (Fastlane, Phase5, 4091) use 0xffffffff.
For ZorroII boards and Oktagon 4008 and use 0x7ffffffc.

> MaxTransfer

Use the same maxtransfer as FFS/AFS did. Maxtransfer is filesystem
  independent.

Trouble shooting
----------------

> PFS2 uses all my Chip RAM

You are using a wrong memory mask. Try 0x7ffffffc.

> After using HDToolbox all settings are gone

HDToolbox can behave strangly when you have more than 5 devices attached,
especially if you have several controllers. If after changing your RDB
your precious data seems to be lost, just reinstall PFS2 and your data
will be back. Formatting a partition will permanently destroy all data
on that partition, so don't do this unless you are sure what you're doing.

Changes since PFSII V4.1
========================

> Read only mode can be disabled with the lock command

If the disk is put in read only mode due to errors, it can now be put back
in normal read/write mode with the lock command from the c: directory.
We recommend to use this only in order to reformat the disk.

> Support for TD64

PFS2 now supports TD64 devices. This allows the use of harddisks larger than
4G without using direct scsi. To use TD64 install the standard version on
a partition exceeding the 4G border and TD64 will be used automatically.
A direct scsi version is still included to support large disks for devices
  which are not TD64 compatible.

> Support for large partitions

PFS2 now supports partitions of upto 104G (was 5G).

Fixed bugs
----------

> Errors when formatting partitions larger than 5G
PFS2 didn't check for maximum partition size. Version 4.2 support upto 104G.

> 'Read outside partition' errors on Phase 5 boards.
  fixed.

> Crashed if rolloverfile of size 0 was created
  fixed

> The MaxTransfer and the maximum blocksize where stated wrong in the german
  manual.

> The French version showed a wrong version number in the format requester.

> The dosdrivers were not on the distribution CD.
