What do I need?

What do I need? I hear you say. Very little really as all you need is a browser to view your creations (which you already have if you're reading this) and a text editor to create your pages with. You only need a basic editor - even Ed will do on the Amiga or Notepad on the PC.

You could use a WYSIWYG (What You See Is what You Get) editor, these may be OK if you do not know anything about HTML, but you do not have any control over the coding it produces and they are not really WYSIWYG as no page will look exactly the same in in any two browsers, EG. A page created using Micro$oft FrontPage may look OK in Internet Explorer, but may look terrible in Netscape Navigator...

A compromise that most people use is a HTML dedicated text editor. These are basically a text editor written especially for creating HTML documents. the advantage of these is that you don't have to keep writing out tags all the time, you just press a button and hey presto - there's your tag. I personally use Golded 4 with the EnvWWW26 plug-in. You can find these on Aminet, it's a case of trying them out to see which one is best for you.
