Welcome to the Irritator. This program is designed to irritate. Irritate
the computer user. It does this by performing various actions at random
intervals while the program is active. The program can belch at you (!) and
click mouse buttons, it can even draw lines on your screens.

If you have someone in your house who ALWAYS uses your computer without
your permission, one solution would be a password protection program.
Another solution would be the Irritator. Scare them off completely. They
will be confused and dumbfounded when icons start dragging themselves, the
screen flashes, belches are heard, and even User Error requesters pop up.

Now if there's anything that's irritating, it's gotta be the law. But we
all have to abide by it, so here's my declarations of copyright and stuff.

Firstly, because of the potentially destructive nature of the CLI commands
system, you should only download Irritator from a reputable site. My site
and Aminet are good ones, although someone may upload a modified archive to
Aminet with destructive commands present. That will NEVER happen on my
site, unless someone hacks my password ;)

This program is provided to the user "AS IS" and the author cannot be held
responsible for any personal injury, damage to property or loss of property
which may occur from using this program. This also includes loss of files
stored on their computer system. Of course, it's perfectly safe.
The only real thing that can happen is that the unsuspecting user starts
tearing his/her hair out in disbelief at the computer's "mind".

Irritator is Mailware, which means that you are actively encouraged to
distribute is as far and as wide as you can, but if you use it, you are
obliged to send me an e-mail, so I know who is using it ;)
In this mail, please include your country, and your system setup. You will
then be automatically sent updates to Irritator, if you wish to of course.
If you do not wish to receive updates automatically, then please say so in
your mail!

Irritator is ©1999 Gareth Griffiths. All Rights Reserved. Do not
disassemble the program, alter any of the programs files (except
Irritator.txts and Irritator.cmds, you are allowed to alter those) or the 
distribution archive itself.

To use Irritator, you need AT LEAST the following system setup:

        · An Amiga (well, duh ;)
        · Workbench 2.04 or above.
        · 1Mb Chip RAM or more.
        · A hard drive is not required, but recommended.

To get the full benefit from its features, you will also need a mouse. But
since most Amiga's are shipped with those anyway, you probably have one ;)

Installing Irritator is devastatingly simple. There are two ways, auto and
manual. To install Irritator automatically, just double click on the
@{I}Install@{UI} on your Workbench screen. To install it manually, simply
follow these steps:

        @{B}1.@{UB} Copy Irritator and Irritator.info to anywhere you like.
 
        @{B}2.@{UB} Copy the documentation over to whereever you like.

        @{B}3.@{UB} Make a directory called Irritator in ENVARC:

        @{B}3.@{UB} Copy Irritator.txts and Irritator.cmds to ENVARC:Irritator/

        @{B}4.@{UB} Reboot your machine, and then run Irritator in the 
          normal way.

Again, this is devastatingly simple. Just double-click on it's icon!
Alternatively you can run it from the CLI, but it has no benefit. The
program will then create itself as a commodity. To check this, load up
Exchange (normally held in @{I}SYS:Tools/Commodities@{UI} and check the list)

If Irritator cannot create a commodity for some reason, you will be
informed and the program will close itself.

After you get Irritator running successfully, just leave it and sit back to
watch the poor computer user suffer at the hands of the Amiga ;)

If for some reason you want to stop the program or quit, just load up
Exchange again and select Irritator from the list. Now click on Remove to
kill the program completely, or toggle it on/off by clicking
Active/Inactive in the Exchange window.

To alter the @{B}actions@{UB} which are displayed in the System Error!
requesters, simply load @{I}ENVARC:Irritator/Irritator.txts@{UI} into a text
editor. Now just edit or append to this file. The only limit on the number 
of actions is the amount of memory you have to store the array in!

Seperate each entry with a carriage return (just press RETURN at the end of
each entry ;) and you won't have any problems.

-NEW IN V1.03- You can now edit the commands typed automatically in to the
CLI window when its opened. The same procedure as above applies, but the
file is called ENVARC:Irritator/Irritator.cmds this time around.

The future of Irritator hangs in the balance. It all depends on whether I
(or you, the users) can think of anything else irritating enough to be put
in ;)

Definitely in for a future release is a GUI which allows you to control
which actions are turned on and which are off. Updates will be available
via my site and Aminet.

There are no KNOWN bugs as yet. But a product can never be 100% bug free,
just ask Micro$oft ;)

If you discover a bug in Irritator, then PLEASE report it. Send an e-mail
detailing your system setup, which version of Irritator you are using, and
as detailed a description of the bug as you can manage, i.e. what it's
effect is on the program, how you found the bug, what you have to do to
discover the bug etc. Send bug-reports to:

Put the program name in the Subject header, i.e. Irritator for this
program. I will then endeavour to stamp out the bug.

Irritator was programmed in Blitz Basic 2 by @{"Gareth Griffiths" LINK AUTH}. It took
about a day to write ;) and suffered no real setbacks.

Thanks to Toby Zuijdveld and Rob Hutchinson for ideas on what to implement.
