You can also use the commands with DOpus 5.5 or earlier versions of Magellan I by assigning them to lister toolbar buttons; full @{"instructions" LINK "INSTALLATION" 25} are provided. You can operate on one file or directory by selecting "Cut" or "Copy" from its @{B}own@{UB} pop-up menu, or on any number of files and/or directories by selecting them in @{B}name mode@{UB} and then selecting "Cut" or "Copy" from the @{B}lister@{UB} pop-up menu. (At this stage, NO changes are made to your disk - the names are simply copied to the Cut'n'Paste clipboard, a file in T:.) When "Paste" on lister pop-up menus (or "Paste Into" on directory and disk pop-up menus) is selected, the clipped files/dirs are copied or moved to that new location using built-in DOpus commands. You will be prompted in the normal way if anything might be overwritten. There is NO danger of Cut'n'Paste DELETING any of your data as it only uses internal commands; of course it is up to you to make sure you know where you're moving data to and if you're overwriting anything! Files/dirs can be renamed as they are pasted by using the "Paste As..." or "Paste Into As..." commands instead. You can view the currently clipped files/dirs by selecting "View/Alter Clipboard Contents..." in any lister pop-up menu. You can also toggle the cut/copy status of the clipboard from there. The clipboard will be cleared after attempting to paste "cut" files/dirs or after selecting "Clear Clipboard Contents". Once there is something in the clipboard you can add more items by selecting "Add To Clipboard". Cut'n'Paste can @{"optionally" LINK "CONFIGURATION"} check whether the new item is already in the clipboard. You can paste links to the files or directories in the clipboard by using the "Paste As Links" or "Paste Into As Links" commands (only on the same disk or partition). If you never intend to use links (I don't recommend using them), you can set an @{"option" LINK "CONFIGURATION"} to hide these commands. You can paste the files or directories in the clipboard into LZX, LhA and ZIP archives by right-clicking on an archive and selecting "Paste Into Archive". You will need to have filetypes set up for the archive types you wish to use and @{"configure" LINK "CONFIGURATION"} Cut'n'Paste to recognise them. The originals will not be deleted, regardless of whether they were "cut" or "copied". Please note that in icon (action) mode you can ONLY use the "Copy", "Cut" and "Add" commands on the file/dir pop-up menus, i.e. you can't drag a box around some icons and select "Copy" from the lister pop-up menu. To achieve this, instead right-click on one of the icons and select "Copy". Then right-click on each of the other icons in turn and select "Add". The icons associated with the files or directories will also be clipped, depending on the @{"settings" LINK "CONFIGURATION"}. If you use Magellan II, the add, paste, view and clear clipboard commands are hidden from the pop-up menus when the clipboard is empty. I have also included suitable button images to add the Cut'n'Paste commands to your listers' toolbar as well as @{"instructions" LINK "INSTALLATION" 25} on how to do this. Tested mainly with Magellan II but should work fine with 5.5+ and Magellan I, but note the first paragraph. If you have version 5.66 or later you can use Cut'n'Paste immediately. If you have an earlier version than 5.66 then you will need to also add the commands to your own lister toolbars. Otherwise: 1. Ensure DOpus 5.5+ and RexxMast are running. Ensure "Name Mode PopUp" is turned on in DOpus's "lister options". 2. For foreign translations only: copy the relevant catalog file from the archive into your own LOCALE:Catalogs/?????/ directory. If you do this after step 3 you will need to restart DOpus to make the translation work, so do it @{B}now@{UB}! Note that catalog files provided with earlier versions of Cut'n'Paste are incompatible with V3.4. 3. Copy CutNPaste.dopus5 into your DOpus5:Modules/ directory. It will be automatically recognised by DOpus and the menu items added immediately (it's not necessary to restart DOpus). Do not rename this file or leave any older versions in the DOpus5:Modules/ directory! 4. Copy CutNPaste.guide (and its icon) to your DOpus5:Help/ directory. No other files are required (except maybe a few to cut and paste...). @{B}USING CUT'n'PASTE THROUGH TOOLBAR ICONS:@{UB} (optional for 5.66+ users) You can also use Cut'n'Paste through the lister toolbar but you will need to set this up yourself. It's not too difficult - here's how to do it: 1. Copy the 5 supplied images into your DOpus5:images/ drawer or anywhere else you want to put them. You may want to put them in a separate sub-directory e.g. DOpus5:images/CutNPaste/ so you can remove them if you don't like them! They are in the MagicWB colour scheme and 24×16 pixels in size. 2. You will need to edit the functions in your lister toolbar. Select "Edit Lister Toolbar..." from the "Listers" menu. 3. Edit the buttons in the normal way (refer to your DOpus manual). In the function editor you will need to select "Command" (as all Cut'n'Paste commands are effectively "built-in"). The names of all the commands you can add are: · Clip-MCut - will cut all selected items to the clipboard · Clip-MCopy - will copy all selected items to the clipboard · Clip-MAdd - add selected items to the clipboard · Clip-MPaste - will paste previously cut/copied items into the lister · Clip-MPasteAs - same as Clip-Paste but allows you to rename the items · Clip-MPasteLinks - paste links to clipboard items on same disk/partition · Clip-View - view contents of clipboard (you can paste from here too) · Clip-Clear - clear clipboard · Clip-About - information about Cut'n'Paste ONLY add ONE command to each function! Do not add anything after the command (i.e. arguments). Do not set any flags as Cut'n'Paste takes care of those. These commands are available in the command list you can display from the function editor. 4. You don't need to assign buttons for all (or any!) of these commands. They are all always available from the lister pop-up menus. On my system I've assigned only these five commands to buttons in this way: · Clip-MCut - middle button function on "move/moveas" button · Clip-MCopy - middle button function on "copy/copyas" button · Clip-MPaste - left mouse button function on new button · Clip-MPasteAs - right mouse button function on new button · Clip-View - middle mouse button function on new button This is only because it fits with my existing buttons and I have a three- button mouse! If you find the Cut'n'Paste method more useful than the built-in Copy and Move commands then you may want to assign Clip-MCut and Clip-MCopy to the left button functions! :) Note that I've only supplied images for these five functions anyway! You can add the commands to the lister command menu (through "Edit Lister Menu...") in the same way. I can't see why you'd want to do this, however, unless you're using DOpus 5.5 and the commands aren't added automatically to the pop-up lister menu. The Cut'n'Paste commands will not work properly with other types of button banks - only add them to lister toolbars or the lister command menu!! @ENDNODE @NODE "USAGE" "Cut'n'Paste V3.4 - Usage Instructions" @{B}USAGE INSTRUCTIONS:@{UB} The following instructions assume you are using Opus 5.66+ so the commands are available in the lister pop-up menu. However the operation is the same if you have added the commands to toolbar icons or the lister command menu. 1. Ensure "Name Mode PopUp" is enabled in "Environment/Lister Options". 2. Open a name mode lister of a directory with some files/dirs. 3. RMB click on a file or dir to cause the menu to pop-up and select "Copy". Note that the item is not actually copied anywhere just yet. 4. Open another name mode lister in another directory (or change the original lister to a different directory), and using the lister pop-up menu, (RMB click on a lister border), select "Paste". 5. The file or directory will be copied to that directory and the original will be left untouched. 6. The clipboard still contains the file or dir so you can paste it again somewhere else or even add more items to the clipboard. · Selecting "Cut" from the file/dir pop-up menu will move it when the "Paste" command is selected. It will not be removed from its original location until the "Paste" command has been successfully executed (it uses the internal DOpus "move" command). The clipboard will always be cleared after attempting to paste "cut" items. · To cut or copy multiple files/dirs, select (highlight) them with the left mouse button, then select "Cut" or "Copy" from the lister pop-up menu (activated by clicking with the right mouse on the lister border). All other commands then act in the same way for any number of items. · To add more items to the clipboard select "Add To Clipboard" from the menus. You can alter this behaviour of Cut'n'Paste - see @{"configuration" LINK "CONFIGURATION"}. · RMB click on a directory (or disk icon on the desktop) and select "Paste Into" to paste the item(s) into that directory or the root directory of the disk. · Select "Paste As..." or "Paste Into As..." to rename the file(s)/dir(s) (using the "MoveAs" and "CopyAs" internal DOpus commands). · Selecting "Paste Links..." will paste links to the items in the clipboard. Note that you can only do this if the items are on the same disk or partition. I do not recommend you use links as they can cause problems with some disk repair programs leading to enormous data losses. You can turn these menu items off if you don't intend to use them - check the @{"configuration" LINK "CONFIGURATION"} section. · You can paste the clipboard items into an LhA, LZX or ZIP archive by right- clicking on the archive and selecting "Paste Into Archive". Note that this command appears on the menu separately from "Cut", "Copy" and "Add". You will need the appropriate archiver programs and you will need to have filetypes set up for these archives. You may also need to alter the @{"configuration" LINK "CONFIGURATION"} of Cut'n'Paste. · If you cut or copy a file or directory with the filetype pop-up menu and it has an icon, the icon can be automatically cut or copied too. See the @{"configuration" LINK "CONFIGURATION"} section for further information about this. · Note that the "Cut", "Copy" and "Add" commands in the lister pop-up menus or lister toolbars do not work in icon or icon action mode listers. Use the filetype pop-up menus or name mode listers instead. You can view the current contents of the clipboard, and whether the item(s) will be cut or copied when pasted, by selecting "View Clipboard Contents..." from the lister pop-up menu. You are then able to paste the items into the lister you selected "View..." from, if you wish. You can toggle the cut or copy status of the clipboard from this requester. To clear the contents select "Clear Clipboard Contents" from the lister pop-up menu. You can also access this through the "View..." requesters. If all this sounds complicated, play around with it and you'll soon work it out! It's much easier than it sounds!!! If you can do the following you're not doing too badly: · Copy some files to the clipboard and paste them somewhere else. · Then add some more files to the clipboard and paste all of them into an archive. · Then select "View" and select "Toggle cut/copy" so the items are now cut. · Right-click on a directory and select "Paste Into" - all items in the clipboard will be moved to this location and the clipboard is cleared. If you would like to use Cut'n'Paste through the lister toolbar instead of menus then check these @{"instructions" LINK "INSTALLATION" 25}. If you are using an earlier version of DOpus than 5.66 you will @{b}need@{ub} to do this to use Cut'n'Paste. Contact me if you have any problems or questions. @ENDNODE @NODE "CONFIGURATION" "Cut'n'Paste V3.4 - User-configurable options" Opus Cut'n'Paste V3.4 introduces a number of user-configurable options to control various aspects of its behaviour. You should only change these if you know what you're doing as you could easily break the script (for example if your text editor decides to wrap some of the longer lines of the script). In all cases the settings are altered by editing "CutNPaste.dopus5" in a text editor. I have carefully set the defaults to what I think will be what most people would prefer as they neither disable any features (e.g. links) nor enable the verbose feedback when adding clipboard items. The default settings for the archivers reflect a fairly "normal" set-up. If you really want to change the settings but don't want to do it yourself then please e-mail me describing the settings you want and I will e-mail you a copy of the script with these settings. If you choose to change the settings then please read these instructions and the notes in the script carefully. Only change the text surrounded by ' ' in the script - there is no need to add anything else to the script. @{B}ARCHIVERS:@{UB} Opus Cut'n'Paste V3.4 can paste clipboard items into LhA, LZX and ZIP archives, provided you have the necessary filetypes and archiver programs. You must configure Cut'n'Paste to recognise the filetype @{B}ID@{UB}'s of your archive filetypes. (The default settings are the same as the default settings for ArcDir and ArcHandler.) You can specify wildcards so if you have several filetypes matching different types of LhA archives, all with ID's starting "LHA" then you can use the following: lhatype = 'LHA#?' The ???cmd variables specify the AmigaDOS command to be executed. The defaults will find the archiver program anywhere in the path. The default behaviour is to only update (add non-existant or newer) files to the archive. The originals will not be deleted regardless of whether they were "cut" or "copied". If you don't want to use a particular archiver and don't have a filetype for it then just ignore its settings - they will have no effect. @{B}OTHER SETTINGS:@{UB} @{B}ramdisktype@{UB} - default = 'RAMDISK' This is the filetype ID of any filetype you have which matches the RAM: disk. If you have this the "Clear Clipboard Contents" command will be added to the RAM: disk's pop-up menu. Otherwise just ignore it. @{B}copyicons@{UB} - default = 'yes' This controls whether icons associated with directories and files will be automatically clipped when you select "Cut", "Copy" or "Add" from their pop-up menu. It has three possible settings: 'yes' - always does this in any type of lister 'notnamemode' - only does this in icon (action) mode listers 'no' - never does this, you must select the icon manually in a name mode lister. @{B}addcheck@{UB} - default = 'quiet' This controls checking whether items are already in the clipboard when you add them. 'yes' - checks items, displays a requester when a duplicated item is found 'quiet' - same as 'yes' but with no requesters (except a progress indicator) 'no' - no checks so you could have an item in the clipboard twice; this is faster but if you have duplicated items you will get "replace" or "item not found" requesters when you "paste" the clipboard. @{B}enablepastelinks@{UB} - default = 'yes' 'yes' - all "Paste Links" commands will be available when the clipboard is not empty 'no' - if you never intend to use links then the commands will be hidden @{B}secondviewreq@{UB} - default = 'yes' This controls the second view requester you get after viewing the clipboard contents in the DOpus reader. 'yes' - this requester is displayed when you close the reader 'no' - the requester is not displayed @ENDNODE @NODE "PROBLEMS" "Cut'n'Paste V3.4 - Problems and Limitations???" Here are a few notes which you should read before you e-mail me about certain apparent limitations: @{B}MULTIPLE ITEM COPYING/MOVING:@{UB} · The multiple item copying routines have some limitations, particularly speed, due mainly to limitations of DOpus. The main cause of this is that the internal DOpus "Copy","CopyAs","Move" and "MoveAs" commands only take one file or directory at a time. So if you want to copy 40 files it will execute the "Copy" command 40 times. I could use the c:copy command but then there would be no ability to move or rename files or abort the operation. Therefore only internal commands can be used. · Another result of this is that the internal DOpus replace requesters won't appear to function correctly. This occurs when the destination file already exists and DOpus asks you whether you want to replace it. Remember that the command is only acting on @{B}one@{UB} item at a time so selecting these buttons will have the following effect: Replace - as normal Replace All - as "Replace", i.e. has no effect on subsequent files/dirs Skip - as normal Skip All - as "Skip" Version - as normal Abort - as "Skip" If you wish to abort then use the abort button on the progress requester which will stop after copying/moving the current file or directory. If anyone knows how to read the results of the replace requester in ARexx then please email me - it doesn't send anything to either RESULT or RC. Note that I could only get the "Abort" button to work though - "Replace/Skip All" will @{B}never@{UB} work properly until the internal commands are extended. · ADVANCED USERS: You can speed up the copy command a bit by removing the "wait" parameter from the following line (approx line 334): command wait dopcmd 'name=' srcfile 'to=' pastepath BUT!! This causes DOpus not to wait for the command to exit before continuing and will work fine unless a lot of destination files already exist in which case all the replace requesters will appear VERY quickly!! I don't recommend you remove the "wait" unless you can live with this. It will only speed it up considerably (maybe by 1/3) when copying lots of very small files or moving lots of files anyway. Note that getting rid of progress requesters has no noticeable impact on speed (and their removal will psychologically make it seem to take longer!) so don't bother!! Don't e-mail me asking me to speed this up - e-mail GP Software instead and ask for the ability to specify multiple files with the internal DOpus commands!! @{B}OTHER MATTERS:@{UB} COMMANDS MISSING FROM LISTER POP-UP MENUS? There have been some users who have reported that the Cut'n'Paste commands are not added to the lister pop-up menus. If this happens to you then check the following: 1. You are activating the pop-up menu from the window border with the right mouse button. This menu should start with the commands "Iconify" and "Snapshot". The commands are not added automatically to the lister command menu activated by left-clicking the down-arrow symbol. (You can do this yourself though in the same way as adding the commands to @{"toolbars" LINK "INSTALLATION" 25}.) 2. The ability to add commands to lister pop-up menus was added in version 5.66 of Opus. You can still use Cut'n'Paste if you have at least Opus 5.5, but you will need to @{"manually add" LINK "INSTALLATION" 25} the commands to your own lister toolbars or lister command menus. 3. If you have Magellan II then the add, paste, view and clear commands are missing from the pop-up menus if the clipboard is empty. They should appear as soon as you "copy" or "cut" something. 4. If you are using a slow <030 Amiga take care that you are not being TOO quick - ARexx is a relatively slow programming system so in some cases you might be quicker than Cut'n'Paste!! So give it a second and try again! If you've tried all the above and are running Opus 5.66+ then try the following: 1. Check again that RexxMast is running. 2. Open a DOpus CLI by going to the "Execute Command" item in the "Opus" menu and pressing the "CLI" button. 3. Type (without quotes) "Clip-About" 4. When you press return you should get Cut'n'Paste's "About" requester. If you get "..........: Unknown command" then check you typed it correctly and then report the problem to me. FUNNY FILENAMES?: With the help of @{"others" LINK "ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS"}, I have tried to ensure that copying files with spaces in their names to destinations with spaces in their paths will always work. If you have any problems then please e-mail me the exact problem, i.e. Full path and filename of source item Full path of destination Whether you cut or copied the item Whether you were trying to rename it (by using "Paste As...") - did it orignally have spaces or does it have spaces in the new name? How you attempted to paste it (e.g. button? lister pop-up? paste into? through the "View" requesters (before or after a big window showing the contents appeared)?) If you use dir/filenames with ',`,",*,(,),|,:,/,# in them then, rename them to something sensible!!!!
