You can operate on one file or directory by selecting 'Cut' or 'Copy' from its own pop-up menu, or on any number of files and/or directories by selecting them and then selecting 'Cut' or 'Copy' from the lister pop-up menu. (At this stage, NO changes are made to your disk.) When 'Paste' on lister pop-up menus (or 'Paste Into' on directory and disk pop-up menus) is selected the clipped files/dirs are copied or moved to that new location using built-in DOpus commands. You will be prompted in the normal way if anything might be over-written. Files/dirs can be renamed by using 'Paste As...' or 'Paste Into As...' commands. You can view the currently clipped files/dirs by selecting 'View Clipboard Contents...' in any lister pop-up menu. The clipboard will be cleared after attempting to paste "cut" files/dirs or after selecting 'Clear Clipboard Contents...'. I have also included suitable button images to add the Cut'n'Paste commands to your listers' toolbar as well as instructions on how to do this. However, I can NOT guarantee that this will be the case on your own machine, especially if you use a version of DOpus other than 5.661. Support for Opus Magellan II will be given after I purchase it, though I have had reports that it works with that software, too. I therefore am not responsible for any untoward effects on your machine, such as data loss, invalidated disks, etc. In any case, all commands used are internal DOpus commands - i.e. if you "move" files they should not be deleted if they weren't moved successfully. I certainly will ignore any problems occurring due to the use of "illegal" characters in filenames, such as *,#,?,",',`,(,), etc. If you use this software you agree to the above. If you think it's really good then please email me and tell me! Can be put on magazine coverdiscs (e.g. Amiga Format and any future publications by the CU Amiga team) or distributed with Opus Magellan II, as long as all other files accompany it unchanged and you email me to let me know! If distributed on floppy disks by PD companies then it may not be distributed alone, due to its small size. It may only be distributed with other software that will at least 3/4-fill the disk. The cost of the whole disk may not be more than £2 or equivalent. In any case it must always be distributed with all other files that were included with it, unchanged (i.e. 5 translations, 5 icons and documentation). Please report bugs or any suggestions to me. If you'd like to send a translation to me (either as a catalog or raw text) then please feel free and I'll add it to the distribution. @ENDNODE @NODE "INSTALLATION" "Cut'n'Paste V3.2 - Installation" @{B}INSTALLATION:@{UB} 1. Ensure DOpus 5.5+ and RexxMast are running. 2. For foreign translations only: copy the relevant catalog file from the archive into your own LOCALE:Catalogs/?????/ directory. If you do this after step 3 you will need to restart DOpus to make the translation work, so do it @{B}now@{UB}! 3. Copy CutNPaste.dopus5 into your DOpus5:Modules/ directory. It will be automatically recognised by DOpus and the menu items added immediately (it's not necessary to restart DOpus). Do not rename this file or leave any older versions in the DOpus5:Modules/ directory! No other files are required (except maybe a few to cut and paste!). @{B}USING CUT'n'PASTE THROUGH TOOLBAR ICONS:@{UB} (optional) You can also use Cut'n'Paste through the lister toolbar but you will need to set this up yourself. It's not too difficult - here's how to do it: 1. Copy the 5 supplied images into your DOpus5:images/ drawer or anywhere else you want to put them. You may want to put them in a separate sub-directory e.g. DOpus5:images/CutNPaste/ so you can remove them if you don't like them! They are in the MagicWB colour scheme and 24×16 pixels in size. 2. You will need to edit the functions in your lister toolbar. Select "Edit Lister Toolbar..." from the "Listers" menu. 3. Edit the buttons in the normal way (refer to your DOpus manual). In the function editor you will need to select "Command" (as all Cut'n'Paste commands are effectively "built-in"). The names of all the commands you can add are: · Clip-MCut - will cut all selected objects to the clipboard · Clip-MCopy - will copy all selected objects to the clipboard · Clip-MPaste - will paste previously cut/copied objects into the lister · Clip-MPasteAs - same as Clip-Paste but allows you to rename the objects · Clip-View - view contents of clipboard (you can paste from here too) · Clip-Clear - clear clipboard · Clip-About - information about Cut'n'Paste ONLY add ONE command to each function! Do not add anything after the command (i.e. arguments). Do not set any flags. 4. You don't need to assign buttons for all (or any!) of these commands. They are all always available from the lister pop-up menus. On my system I've assigned only the first five commands to buttons in this way: · Clip-MCut - middle button function on "move/moveas" button · Clip-MCopy - middle button function on "copy/copyas" button · Clip-MPaste - left mouse button function on new button · Clip-MPasteAs - right mouse button function on new button · Clip-View - middle mouse button function on new button This is only because it fits with my existing buttons and I have a three- button mouse! If you find the Cut'n'Paste method more useful than the built-in Copy and Move commands then you may want to assign Clip-MCut and Clip-MCopy to the left button functions! :) Note that I've only supplied images for these five functions anyway! You can add the commands to the lister command menu (through "Edit Lister Menu...") in the same way. I can't see why you'd want to do this, however, unless you're using DOpus 5.5 and the commands aren't added automatically to the pop-up lister menu. The Cut'n'Paste commands will not work properly with other types of button banks - only add them to lister toolbars or the command menu!! @ENDNODE @NODE "USAGE" "Cut'n'Paste V3.2 - Usage Instructions" @{B}USAGE INSTRUCTIONS:@{UB} 1. Ensure 'Name Mode PopUp' is enabled in 'Environment/Lister Options' (the location of this option may have changed in Magellan II). 2. Open a name mode lister of a directory with some files/dirs. 3. RMB click on a file or dir to cause the menu to pop-up and select 'Copy'. Note that the object is not actually copied anywhere just yet. 4. Open another name mode lister in another directory (or change the original lister to a different directory), and using the lister pop-up menu, (RMB click on a lister border), select 'Paste'. 5. The file or directory will be copied to that directory and the original will be left untouched. · Selecting 'Cut' from the file/dir pop-up menu will move it when the 'Paste' command is selected. It will not be removed until the 'Paste' command has been successfully executed. · To cut or copy multiple files/dirs, select (highlight) them with the LMB, then select 'Cut' or 'Copy' from the lister pop-up menu (activated by moving the mouse to the lister window border and clicking with the right mouse button). All other commands then act in the same way for any number of objects. · RMB click on a directory (or disk icon on the desktop) and select 'Paste Into' to paste the object(s) into that directory or the root directory of the disk. · Select 'Paste As...' or 'Paste Into As...' to rename the file (using the 'MoveAs' and 'CopyAs' internal DOpus commands). · If you cut or copy a file or directory with the filetype pop-up menu and it has an icon, the icon will be automatically cut or copied too. The icon will not be cut or copied when you select cut or copy from lister pop-up menus or lister toolbars, unless you have selected it as well. You can view the current contents of the clipboard, and whether the item(s) will be cut or copied when pasted, by selecting "View Clipboard Contents..." from the lister pop-up menu. You are then able to paste the objects into the lister you selected "View..." from, if you wish. To clear the contents select "Clear Clipboard Contents..." from the lister pop-up menu. You can also access this through the "View..." requesters. If this sounds complicated, play around with it and you'll soon work it out! It's much easier than it sounds!!! If you would like to use Cut'n'Paste through the lister toolbar instead of menus then check these @{"instructions" LINK "INSTALLATION" 19}. Contact me if you have any problems or questions. @ENDNODE @NODE "PROBLEMS" "Cut'n'Paste V3.2 - Problems and Limitations???" Here are a few notes which you should read before you email me about certain apparent limitations: @{B}MULTIPLE OBJECT COPYING/MOVING:@{UB} · The multiple object copying routines have some limitations, particularly speed, due mainly to limitations of DOpus. The main cause of this is that the internal DOpus "Copy","CopyAs","Move" and "MoveAs" commands only take one file or directory at a time. So if you want to copy 40 files it will execute the "Copy" command 40 times. I could use the c:copy command but then there would be no ability to move or rename files. Therefore only internal commands can be used. · Another result of this is that the internal DOpus replace requesters won't appear to function correctly. This occurs when the destination file already exists and DOpus asks you whether you want to replace it. Remember that the command is only acting on @{B}one@{UB} file at a time so selecting these buttons will have the following effect: Replace - as normal Replace All - as "Replace", i.e. has no effect on other files Skip - as normal Skip All - as "Skip" Version - as normal Abort - as "Skip" If you wish to abort then use the abort button on the progress requester which has an immediate effect. If anyone knows how to read the results of the replace requester in ARexx then please email me - it doesn't send anything to either RESULT or RC. Note that I could only get the "Abort" button to work though - "Replace/Skip All" will @{B}never@{UB} work properly until the internal commands are extended. · ADVANCED USERS: You can speed up the copy command a bit by removing the "wait" parameter from the following line (approx line 200): command wait dopcmd 'name=' srcfile 'to=' pastepath BUT!! This causes DOpus not to wait for the command to exit before continuing and will work fine unless a lot of destination files already exist in which case all the replace requesters will appear VERY quickly!! I don't recommend you remove the "wait" unless you can live with this. It will only speed it up considerably (maybe 1/3) when copying lots of very small files or moving lots of files anyway. Note that getting rid of progress requesters has no noticeable impact on speed (and their removal will psychologically make it seem to take longer!) so don't bother!! Don't email me asking me to speed this up - email GP Software instead and ask for the ability to specify multiple files with the internal DOpus commands!! @{B}OTHER MATTERS:@{UB} COMMANDS MISSING FROM LISTER POP-UP MENUS? There have been some users who have reported that the Cut'n'Paste commands are not added to the lister pop-up menus. If this happens to you then check the following: 1. You are activating the pop-up menu from the window border with the right mouse button. This menu should start with the commands "Iconify" and "Snapshot". The commands are not added automatically to the lister command menu activated by left-clicking the down-arrow symbol. (You can do this yourself though in the same way as adding the commands to @{"toolbars" LINK "INSTALLATION" 19}.) 2. Are you running DOpus 5.5? There is a chance that they may not appear in this version of the program. If you run 5.5 and have had success or failure please let me know. Opus 5.5 users should still be able to use Cut'n'Paste through lister toolbars or command menus by @{"manually adding" LINK "INSTALLATION" 19} the commands. If you've tried all the above and are running Magellan I/II then try the following: 1. Check again that RexxMast is running. 2. Open a DOpus CLI by going to the "Execute Command" item in the "Opus" menu and pressing the "CLI" button. 3. Type (without quotes) "Clip-About" 4. When you press return you should get a requester. If you get "Unknown Command" then check you typed it correctly and then report the problem to me. FUNNY FILENAMES?: With the help of @{"others" LINK "ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS"}, I have tried to ensure that copying files with spaces in their names to destinations with spaces in their paths will always work. (This may have been slightly broken in V3.0 - sorry, it's sorted now!) If you have any problems then please email me the exact problem, i.e. Full path and filename of source object Full path of destination Whether you cut or copied the object Whether you were trying to rename it (by using Paste As...) - did it orignally have spaces or does it have spaces in the new name? How you attempted to paste it (e.g. button? lister pop-up? paste into? through the "View" requesters (before or after a big window showing the contents appeared)?) If you use dir/filenames with ',`,",*,(,),|,:,/,# in them then rename them to something sensible!!!!
