Okay then, to start this procedure you must have a copy of the NComm package v3.06 fully installed on your system. I am not going to provide you with instructions for installing NComm as there are adequate instructions provided with it. Next have your upgrade files ready. These are LOAD4IN1.s37 and Vewsce8.s37 which we will use to upgrade the modem. Keep these in a place on your hard drive e.g. Work:V90upgrade/ for simplicity. Now, load up your NComm program by double-clicking on its icon and switch on your external Dynalink modem. Next you must set up some options within NComm.
Goto the Com menu and set the baud rate to 9600. Okay, the options are set - next we must initialize the Dynalink modem. Enter the command AT&F at the NComm console window where the cursor lies and press return. Enter the command AT** and press return. A message will be displayed which says Download Initiated. Okay so far so good. Now you must goto the menu option Transfer and select the option Start ASCII send. A requester will now appear. You must find the location of your upgrade patches and select the one named LOAD4IN1.s37. When you have done this click the okay button on the requester and a series of dots will be displayed on screen. This is normal. When it has finished the cursor will return to the next line below. Go back to the Transfer menu option and select the Start ASCII send option. This time select the Vewsce8.s37 patch file and press okay on the requester. Some text will be printed on the screen along with a series of dots (like before) but this time, there will be many more and the process may take several minutes before it has finished. Once finished the cursor will return to a new line. Here you must type the following command AT&FI3I4. Some information will be displayed on screen indicating the patch you have installed into your modem. You have now successfully completed the update to your modem. You can quit NComm and return to Workbench. From here you can test your modem by going on-line to your ISP like you would do normally. If your modem is failing to do anything i.e. dial-out, re-check the instructions and see if you have missed something. Repeat the process if necessary. If it still doesn't work at the end of it, then I'm sorry but I've no idea why. My modem works fine following this guide. I am a subscriber to Global Internet and recently they have upgraded their lines from V34 to V90. They still support K56Flex, however, as V90 is the new agreed standard I decided to upgrade to V90. I was struggling more and more with the old configuration of my modem. I had problems connecting to my ISP every night - 95% of the time. It would usually take three attempts to get on-line. The Dynalink modem even refused to connect at its best possible speed. I used to have to force the modem into V34 modem, even that suffered more recently. Since the upgrade I have had no problems. I have had no connection failures on the V90 line at globalnet. I typically get connection speeds of around 45k to 50k, which is a substantial improvement on what I was getting. Of course connection speeds depend on your ISP and other factors like line quality. Anyway, I hope this has helped you and you can enjoy the full benefit of V90. I would like to emphasise that if your ISP does not yet support V90, then I would not personally risk upgrading to V90 until they do. Oh and the first upgrade to my modem resulted in it not working, the reason being another Rockwell upgrade off Aminet RWK56.lha. It does not work with the Dynalink V1456VQE, so don't try it! However, I had the common sense to download at least 6 or 7 patches off the internet before hand so I could still perform the upgrade. These patches were originally intended for the PC Win95/Win98 etc, but when I tried them on a PC the patch program couldn't even find my modem.. typical. Regards.. and good luck!
