The Surf Squirrel is an advanced SCSI-2 interface that is over
twice the speed of the original Squirrel, allowing transfer speeds
of up to 1.2MB per second on an unexpanded A1200 and up to 2.6MB
per second on an accelerated A1200. |

As a user of the Surf Squirrel you will have a product which supports
all of the requirements of SCSI-2, and therefore you should find
that all SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 devices, provided they conform to SCSI
standards, will work satisfactorily. |

SCSI is a much more flexible way to expand your Amiga than IDE.
With a SCSI interface attached to your A1200 you can then connect
up to seven other SCSI peripherals. These can be hard disks, tape
drives, DAT drives, CD-ROM drives, Zip, Jaz or SyQuest removables,
Magneto Optical drives, scanners... and a whople lot more. All
peripherals can be "daisy-chained" together using suitable cables,
and each peripheral will have its own identification number so
that your A1200 can address each one as necessary to allow all
the peripheral to "talk" to each other. |
Includes a full
CD32 emulator |
With a SCSI CD-ROM drive attached to your Surf Squirrel you can
run the supplied CD32 emulator and expect to be able to play 90%
of all CD32 games (which are currently selling at vastly reduced
prices). A few CD32 games are programmed to directly access the
actual CD32 hardware, and these will not run under emulation,
only on the CD32 itself, but in our experience 9 out of every
10 CD32 games have been written properly and will run perfectly
under emulation. |

On the rear of the Surf Squirrel interface is a faster and higher
quality version of the serial port that's built into your A1200.
The irritating thing about the A1200's serial port is that even
with an accelerator fitted it is difficult to run the port reliably
at 38,400 bits per second (bps), let alone at the 115,200 bps
or more supported by some modern modems. The Surf Squirrel serial
port can run very comfortably at 115,200 bps on a standard A1200,
and if you have fitted a faster CPU into your A1200 you can ramp
up the Surf Squirrel serial port to as high as 230,400 bps and
still get reliable data transfers (provided, of course, that your
modem supports this speed). |
Industry standard
9-pin socket |
The Surf Squirrel serial port looks quite different to the one
on the back of your A1200. There are far fewer pins on the Surf
Squirrel port; in fact there are nine. The A1200's port has 25
pins, yet there is nothing the Amiga serial port can do that the
Surf Squirrel port cannot. The difference is merely in the connectors
and the way the Surf Squirrel is wired internally. The 9-way connector
is the most prevalent industry standard. To connect your modem
to the Surf Squirrel you will require a lead that has a 25-way
connector on one end and a 9-way connector on the other; this
is precisely the lead that millions of PC owners use. |
| Compatible with all modern software |
We have successfully tested the Surf Squirrel serial port with
a wide range of modern Amiga communications and Internet software.
Provided the software allows you to specify a new serial device
name in its set-up preferences (and all modern software does),
then the software will be able to communicate with the Surf Squirrel
serial port. |

with the built-in A1200 serial port, thus enabling you to run
two modems with one Amiga-ideal for bulletin boards! |
