| Uses MUI |
Magic User Interface (MUI) has become the popular standard in
user interfaces for Workbench and the Amiga. Thanks to MUI, the
iBrowse user interface sports features that enable it to hold
its head proudly when in the company of famous browsers from other
platforms. |
| Bubble Help |
If you leave the pointer stationary over certain iBrowse gadgets,
after a couple of seconds a speech bubble will appear containing
a brief description of the function of that gadget. You may set
the time delay for the Bubble Help, or switch it off completely
if you prefer. |
| Drag-and-drop |
Drag-and-Drop is a feature which not only saves you typing time
but also enables you to customise your iBrowse windows. The major
browser gadgets-navigation buttons, location gadget, fastlink
buttons, status line and "working" animation- can all be moved
to any edge of the window simply by pointing at them and dragging
them to the new position. Similarly, URLs in most requesters can
be dragged and dropped into other requesters, or even into the
main browser window. |
| FAB Menus |
Whenever the pointer is over a link on a web page your right mouse
button turns into a Fast Action Button. Hold down the Fast Action
Button and a FAB Menu will pop up containing a list of options
that are releveant to that type of link. For example, the FAB
Menu for an "action" link (one that takes you to another web page)
contains an option to open that link in a new iBrowse window. |
| Multiple windows |
You may open as many iBrowse windows as memory permits, enabling
you (for example) to browse several sites simultaneously and flip
between them instantly with the click of a mouse button. |
High quality
colour dithering |
Almost all web pages are designed to look best in at least 256
colours, but unless you own a graphics card your Amiga will crawl
along on a 256-colour screen. iBrowse solves the problem by allowing
you to run in a faster screen mode (64 colours for example) and
then dithering the available colours to give the impression of
more.

| Frames |
Many popular web sites use independent, scrollable windows to
display information. These windows are known as "frames". iBrowse
users can now enjoy full access to sites that use frames, where
clicking on a link in one frame can cause the contents of another
frame to change.

| Secure servers |
Using iBrowse 1.12 (or later) you can talk to secure servers,
thus enabling you to connect to and use websites that need to
ask you for private information - like shopping websites, for
example. |
| Email |
iBrowse is not an email program, but there will be times when
you are browsing that you may want to quickly send some email
without running or switching to your specialist email program.
You can send email from iBrowse to literally any email address
by entering the "mailto:" command into the location gadget, or
by clicking on an email link on a web page. |
| FTP |
While there are many specialist Amiga FTP programs, we think you'll
find the the built-in iBrowse FTP user interface more convenient
and easier to use. To access an FTP site you simply enter the
"ftp://" command, followed by the address of the FTP site. Once
contacted, FTP sites can be quickly stored in your hotlist so
that you never have to type the address again. The point-and-click
iBrowse FTP interface is just like using a file manager. And the
best bit is you can initiate as many downloads at once as you
like, from as many different sites as you like-with no loss of
transfer speed! The single download status window will keep you
informed of the progress of all downloads initiated from all sites. |
| Gopher |
Not everyone's cup of tea these days, but if you need to access
gopher sites you can do so by entering the "gopher://: command
into the Location gadget. |
| Full window history |
iBrowse remembers all the links you have opened in an individual
browser window during a session. This "history" can be displayed,
and the list is formatted so that you can see the relationship
between links. You can click on a link to open it, or drag-and-drop
a link from here to any URL (location) gadget. As you open links,
so the names of those links are added to the foot of the Navigation
menu, providing yet another way of quickly getting to a previously
visited link. |
Extensive
hotlist options |
iBrowse features and extensive hotlist option that not only enables
you to store your favourite links and locations (web sites, ftp
sites and so on), but also to rearrange those links and locations
into groups and into any order you desire. Hotlist entries can
be accessed either from the hotlist window or from the hotlist
menu (which will have sub menus if you have set up groups in the
hotlist). You may also give any link an "alias" so that you may
type (for example) "fred" into the main browser Location gadget
to get to Fred's home page. |
| Fastlink buttons |
For those web sites that you visit on a regular basis, iBrowse
provides you with the means to set up buttons that, when clicked,
take you directly to those sites. Setting up Fastlink buttons
is easy-in the Fastlink preferences click on Add, type in the
name of the button, type in the location, click on OK. You strip
of fastlink buttons may be positioned along any edge of the iBrowse
window uising drag-and-drop. |
Unlimited
caching
of web pages |
To save you time and money, iBrowse caches previously visited
web pages, first in memory, then to hard disk. You can personally
adjust the amount of memory and hard disk space iBrowse is allowed
to use for its cache, and cached pages can be opened at any time
(or saved to a different location for permanent storage) via the
handy cache browser window. |
| Cookies |
iBrowse users can enjoy the benefits of "cookies", little packets
of information about you that are stored by web sites that themselves
support cookies. For example, you could go shopping on a web site
one day, leave without actually ordering, then when you return
to that site days or months later, your shopping basket will still
contain the items you picked up on your previous visit. But don't
worry, cookies aren't Big Brother, they can't store any information
about you that you don't willingly provide in response to questions
asked by the web site.

| MPEG, WAV and QuickTime support |
iBrowse enables you to "plug in" third party programs so that
links on web pages that take you to (for example) MPEG movies,
QuickTime movies or WAV sounds can be played on your Amiga. Shareware
programs or DataTypes are freely available to handle all manner
of foreign file formats, including the three mentioned here. |
| Networking |
iBrowse provides facilities so that your Amiga can be part of
a computer network if you need it to be (provided, of course,
you have the necessary Amiga networking hardware and software). |
