DesignWorks details
FEATURE DESCRIPTION
Multiple format
import / export
Often it is necessary to combine bitmaps with your structured drawings. DesignWorks comes with several import filters, including IFF-ILBM, TIFF, TGA, JPEG, GIF, BMP and PCX.On top of this, to enable you to be able to use DesignWorks graphics with other Amiga applications (such as desktop publishers and word processors), DesignWorks will export graphics in the IFF-ILBM bitmap format, the IFF-DR2D structured drawing format, and Encapsulated PostScript (EPS).
Multiple fonts DesignWorks supports standard Amiga bitmap fonts, standard Amiga Compugraphic fonts (which will print at high resolution), plus the "classic 35" fonts built into most PostScript printers.
Multiple
drawing layers
DesignWorks is the only budget-priced Amiga illustration software that implements multiple drawing layers. Think of a layer as a sheet of clear plastic on which you draw; multiple layers means that you can place different parts of your graphic on different layers and then manipulate the graphics on one layer without affecting the graphics on any other layer. Naturally, you may also rearrange the layers so that parts of your graphic are "on top of" or "under" other parts. This extremely powerful feature is normally found only in professional (and every expensive) Mac/PC applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter, Pagemaker and Freehand, for example.
Multiple documents DesignWorks will allow you to have as many open documents as available memory will allow, thus enabling you to quickly and easily cut and paste graphics between documents.
Multiple
undo / redo
levels
DesignWorks remembers what you are doing and puts the last 50 actions (depending on available memory) into a list. At any time you may select an action from this list to revert to your drawing as it stood when that particular action was performed. The Redo function enables you to reverse (undo) an undo function. This is a powerful, time-saving feature that you will find in no other Amiga page design software.
Multi-page documents The size of your page designs need not be restricted by the page-size of your printer. DesignWorks will allow you to work on poster-sized pages, which it will then automatically break up into printer-sized pages that you can reassemble into a poster after printing.
Powerful
macro
language
Often you may find that you are performing the same (or similar) actions over and over again, manually. Apart from being time-consuming, this soon becomes boring and is therefore prone to human error. DesignWorks comes with a built-in macro language that enables you to automate any process. As this macro language is accessed via ARexx, this also means that any other program with an ARexx port can send macro commands to DesignWorks.
Context
sensitive
toolbox
Exclusive to DesignWorks (yet again!) the toolbox presents you with a different set of tools depending on which tool menu has been selected. This revolutionary interface design means that while tools are still easily accessible via a floating toolbox, your screen is never cluttered with dozens of icons that are irrelevant to the tool that you are currently using. As well as being less confusing, this leaves more space on your screen for your document window.
Printing For printing, DesignWorks will use whichever printer driver is currently selelected in Workbench Printer preferences.
