Feb. 1 - Next issue of CU Amiga features an exclusive 5-page monster preview of Quake. Here are a few excerpts. To read the whole preview look for the CU with Quake on the cover around Feb. 15.

"We've played it,
and we've sold our soul to it"

"We have seen the future of Amiga gaming, and it Quakes!"

"Even without a graphics card, a fast Amiga can play full screen Quake at speeds so reasonable that you never find yourself missing the action..."

"Amiga Quake is probably the quickest version of Quake there is. To put this in perspective, to get similar performance out of a PC with similar graphics hardware, requires a significantly faster CPU. According to our tests, a 50MHz 68060 ran as fast as a Cyrix P150 and even the AGA version ran 320 by 200, 8 bit mode as fast as a 486DX4 100MHz with a graphics card comparable to a Picasso 2. Impressive stuff!"

"ClickBOOM have given us 16 bit support, and it looks amazing. You'll need a graphics card to get it, but it barely slows the game down if you do."

Jan. 20 - Quake is being pushed a little bit into the month of February. No reason to panic, we just need a bit more time to test and make sure everything runs perfectly. All the options have been fully working since the end of December, and it's just a matter of hunting down and removing all the bugs and quirks.

Great news is that we have a green light from id software for QuakeWorld, and it will be created as soon as Quake development wraps up. As with original Quake PC, QW will be avaiable as a free download, and will not be a part of the Quake retail version. More info on QW coming soon.
