*********** PLAYBALL ************ Written by G.M.Brook. 1996. *** Playball - Instructions *** PlayBall is a puzzle game involving balls. You have to launch different coloured balls up the table and match 3 of the same colour in a row. Sound easy....well the hard part is that you can only bounce the balls of the sides of the table. There are 5 different colours of balls and there are bonuses which help you along the way. You can select the time limit you want from 60 to 2 minutes and the amount of lines of 3 you get and the score you accumulate in that time is calculated and if good enough you will be entered into one of the 3 high score tables. The basic aim of the game is to get the biggest and best all time score in each of the three tables. There are various options that can be selected and are all auto-saved on selection. *************** OPTIONS ************** ***** SOUND ****** The game offers the choice of either Sampled sound FX or various music tracks. The Music options are as follows. RANDOM LOOP - Will select on of the tracks and play it constantly throughout your game, looping if necessary. JUKEBOX - Will randomly choose and play a different track every 2 minutes. Only repeating a track when all have been played. CHOOSE - You can choose which track you wish to listen to (only one i'm afraid), which will loop if necessary. LOAD YOUR OWN - You can select any of your own favourite tunes and load them into the music list. Click on one of the blank boxes and use the menu to find your music file you wish to use, MOD files only i'm afraid. They will be copied into the same folder as the other music files (P2 MUSIC), so due to the tight squeeze on the disk, you'll only be able to do this if you've copied PlayBall onto you're hard drive. If you try it and you've not enough room the program will crash, so you've been warned. The list can be cleared by pressing the 'ESCAPE' key on the Load Own screen. You will find all music file as stated above in the 'P2 MUSIC' folder for re-entering onto the list. ****** CONTROLS ******* The controls page offers a variety of different options. INTRO ON/OFF - Turn the intro on or off.(preset on) JOYSTICK/KEYS/BOTH - Choose method of control. (preset both) REDEFINE KEYS - Redefine control keys.(preset to "o","p" left right, "'space'" fire ball, "q","e" turn arrow left right. Joystick Left,Right, fire as normal, down for turning arrow) SELECT GAME TIME - Select time limit for game, 2 to 60 minutes. As you can exit the game anytime by pressing "Escape" it is best to keep it set at 60 minutes, the lines will still be calculated for the high score table. For a tense under pressure game you may choose a smaller amount of time. Watch out for the sound of your heat beating as you run out of time!!! (preset to 60 minutes) ****** HIGH SCORE TABLE ****** Upon reaching a new high score you will be entered into one of the three high score table. They are as follows. *** Table One *** This is the SCORE table. You get 10 points per line made, plus bonuses for lines made immediately after each other and extra an extra bonus if the line is of the same colour. Eg. You get 10 lines, which at 10 points a line gives you 100 points. It is possible for the next person to get 9 lines + 3 bonuses for successive lines which would give you 105 points taking them above the last person even though they have less lines. *** Table Two *** This is the LINES table. This simply enters the players with the most lines, regardless of the point they have scored. *** Table Three *** This is the LINES PER MINUTE table. This table calculates the number of lines you scored in the time you played. The greater the better. Eg. If you played for 30 minutes and accumulated 60 lines then you would have 2 Lines Per Minute. You can view each of these tables from the options page, upon entering the table you can switch between them by clicking on the appropriate table indicated at the top of the screen. *** It is worth noting that if you are playing from disk and have room for the Jukebox Music (2 meg + amigas) that it will take a little extra time to load them in. Of course if you've a hard drive simple copy the main folder onto it and you'll not notice anything. If however you are playing from disk and have room for the music but don't want it, simply go to the music menu and clear the list. This will save it been loaded in every time you play. You can exit from the game from the main menu by pressing "Escape", or by pressing "*" from various other screens. This has been left in for your convenience.
