Character:

Security Chief Michael Garibaldi

Race:

Human

Profile:

Born on Earth in 2221, Michael Garibaldi has worked most of his life in security, as did his father before him. He has spent a lot of that time fighting his own alcoholism, and admits that he hit the bottle when life got too tough. In 2241 Garibaldi worked as a security officer on Europa. Many of the other members of security were corrupt and would accept bribes. As the only one who tried to do his job properly he was under immense pressure, which eventually drove him to drink. While working there he became strong friends with a pilot called Frank Kemmer. When Garibaldi came too close to uncovering the bribery, Frank was killed by a bomb and Garibaldi was framed for it. He was then blackballed through the entire system. His other postings include Orion 4 and Fortune City.

He played his part in the Earth-Minbari war as a GROPOS and for a long time afterwards sufferred from nightmares. In 2255, while operating a 'no questions asked' shuttle run on Mars, he was hired by Lieutenant Jeffrey Sinclair. Afterwards he became close friends with Sinclair. Later that year he began working for Mars Colony Security until he was offerred the post as Chief of security in 2256 on Babylon 5 by Commander Sinclair. Garibaldi was an unlikly choice, but Sinclair insisted that he was given the job. In 2258 he was almost killed by one of his own men, and as a result began to doubt his ability to do his job. Garibaldi showed his loyalty most at the close of 2260, by following the orders of Captain Sheridan, even though he strongly disagreed with them. While Sheridan was on Z'ha'dum fighting for his life, Garibaldi was scrambled with the rest of Babylon 5's fighter wings to defend the station against the shadows, but did not return after the Shadows retreated.
