Susan Ivanova was born in St.
Petersburg, Earth on 30th August 2230. She was raised as a Jew abroad, to avoid
the Psi Corp discovering her telepathic abilities. At a young age her mother
Sofie had warned her to never allow a telepath to scan her. Sofie succeeded in
hiding her telepathic ability until her 35th birthday when she was discovered.
She was forced to take drugs to suppress her telepathic ability and this drove
her to commit suicide, something for which Ivanova will never forgive the Psi
Corp. Ivanova had one brother called Gayna who was killed in the Earth-Minbari
war a year after Sofie's suicide.
Susan followed in the footsteps of
her brother when she joined Earthforce, against her father Andrei's wishes, in
2247. In 2249 she graduated from the OTC and was later transferred to Io, where
she served under John Sheridan. Ivanova worked her way up though the ranks and
in 2258 became Babylon 5's second in command, under Commander Sinclair. She does
not like to show weakness, and when her father died in 2258, she continued her
normal duties until Rabbi Koslov convinced her to let go. She was promoted to
the rank of Commander shortly after Sheridan's arrival on the station. In an
attempt to avoid a scan by a telepath, Ivanova admitted to Captian Sheridan that
she is a latent telepath. Despite her hatred of the Psi Corp she showed strong
feelings towards telepath Talia Winters, until Talia was revealed to be a Psi
Corp spy and was transferred back to Earth. In 2260 Ivanova played a vital part
in the both the station's fight for independence and the huge confrontation with
the Shadows. |
