Stephen Franklin was assigned to
Babylon 5 in 2258 to replace Dr. Benjamin Kyle. As the son of General Richard
Franklin, he has had a difficult relationship with his father who, because of
the nature of his job, spent most of his time away from his family. Franklin
studied Xenobiology under both Dr. Vance Hendricks and Dr. Everett Jacobs. Soon
after, Franklin began hitchhiking across the galaxy, trading his medical skills
for passage aboard the ships. When the Earth-Minbari war began, Franklin joined
Earthforce and nearing the end of the war was instructed to hand over his notes
on Minbari genetics. Earthforce wanted to develop biological weapons that could
be used against the Minbari, but Franklin refused and destroyed all his records.
Franklin
strongly believes that every life is sacred and will break any rules necessary
to ensure he does everything he can to save a patient. He showed this devotion
to his job shortly after arriving on Babylon 5 in 2258, by attempting to save a
dying alien boy against his parent's wishes. In 2259, Franklin also helped to
illegally relocate escaping telepaths away from the Psi Corp by running an
underground operation aboard the station. Because of his devotion to his work in
2259, Franklin started to become dependant on Stims, a type of physical and
mentally enhancing drug. By mid 2260 he had become addicted and once he had
admitted his problem, resigned from his post and went on 'Walkabout'. Near the
end of 2260 he had kicked the habit and after being attacked and left for dead,
managed to get help and soon after was re-appointed to his position in Medlab. |
