We have been to the cinema since the last time the index page was updated on 7th December last year, it's just that I've been very busy working on the mag for the last couple of months. Here's a verrrrry quick run down on what we've seen since then (in no particular order):

• Extreme Measures
  Medical drama movie, loosely a remake of Coma, with Hugh Grant actually giving a pretty good performance and Gene Hackman acting by numbers. The oddest thing about the film is how flat everything looks, almost as though it were filmed on a stage set or with a very wide angle lens rather than an anabolic rig. Not bad, but pretty forgettable.

• Mathilda
  Excellent movie based on a Roald Dahl story. The young girl who plays Mathilda (can't remember her name, but she was in the remake of Miracle on 34th Street) is splendid and really looks as though she is enjoying her new powers. Miss Honey is and generally the film was very enjoyable, especially for an almost unrecognisable Pam Ferris as the wicked Headmistress.

• Sleepers
  Based on a true story (although there are rumours that like the Coen Brothers' Fargo this is just to get even more publicity for the film), this is a film about boys sent to a reform school and abused there who seek revenge when grown up. I have a real problem with the casting since the boys look nothing like their fully-grown counterparts and vice versa, but other than that it was fairly enthralling.

• Ransom
  Big budget thriller with Mel Gibson and Rene Russo. Mel does all the things you expect from him in a thriller, you know, running through heavy traffic and doing the angst scene, but in toto, it's not a bad film, just not a brilliant one.
