Sensei(tm) Japanese Language Series, A Classical
Dreams(tm) Production!

System Requirements:    WorkBench 2.0 (or higher), 1 Meg
ram, speakers for sound, 1 or more drives if running from
floppy. (it should work under 1.3, but I do not currently
have a 1.3 machine to test this.)  

What it is:  This is a Pop-Up type Japanese Vocabulary
builder, using the words from the registered version of
the "Japanese Talking Picture Dictionary".  This program 
is complete within itself, but it is also designed to 
speak the words if you already have, and can use, the 
dictionary.  If you do not have the dictionary, you will 
simply be unable to have any words pronounced.  You can 
still use this program to help your Japanese.


Two versions:  There are two versions of this program 
provided.  The one named "WordADay" needs no other 
support files other than the "Nihongo" font.  The one 
named "WordADay-Small" will only work if you have the 
"CanDo.Library" in your "Libs" directory.  This was done 
to save disk space for CanDo users.  If you use the small 
version, rename it to "WordADay".

Floppy disk usage:   This program will work from floppy 
disk.  The program will select a word from somewhere

within the 1019 word database and display it and the 
English translation.  If you are running 2.0, you can put
the icon into the WBStartup drawer and it will be run 
when you boot your computer. 

Hard Disk usage:  This program was meant to run from your
hard disk.  The best way is to put it in your WBStartup 
drawer.  If you have the dictionary program on your hard 
disk, you can set the program to find the sounds and play 
the word automatically.  To do this, the program file 
must be named "WordADay".  Single click on the Icon for 
the program, and select "Information" from the pull-down 
menu.  Enter the following in the "Comment" box:
     SOUND=ON  DRIVE=WORK:DICTIONARY/

You can, of course, substitute your own hard drive and 
directory for the sounds in the comment file.  Be sure 
that there are no spaces between the words "Sound=ON", 
and no spaces between the words 
"Drive=Work:DirectoryName/".  Be sure to include the "/".

(Note, you can play sounds from floppy disk if you do not
have the dictionary on a hard drive.  The program will 
ask for the correct disk as it needs it.) 


Multi-tasking:  This program will happily multi-task with
most other programs.  

   There is also a font directory on the disk that  
contains the "Nihongo" font that allows usage of the 
over-line characters that indicate a long "a,e,i,o,u, or y". 

Buttons:  The window is divided in half.  Single-click on 
the left half and a new word will be selected and 
displayed.  If you have sounds turned on, single-click on 
the right half and the current sound will be repeated.
Click on the exit button, and the program will quit.
If you do not want the sounds on initially, but decide to
turn them on during the program, turn on the sounds from 
the pull-down menu.


Legal considerations:  This version of "WordADay" is 
copyrighted by Wayne Quigley Sr. and Classical 
Dreams!(tm), Copyright 1993.  This version may be freely
distributed as long as all files with it are not changed,
and no more than a minimal copying fee is charged.  This
software is released "As Is" and the author is not
responsible for any problems, damages, or other legal
stuff that may occur as a result of using this software.
 (Sorry, but some people would sue anyone for any reason,
or no reason at all.)

Currently Available: A Hiragana module, that teaches
Hiragana writing.  The demo version is on Fred Fish disk
#662. 

A "Japanese Talking Picture Dictionary", a thirteen disk
set that looks like a dictionary, contains over a hundred
pictures, and over a thousand words.  Each word is
digitized from a human (Japanese) voice.

Future modules:  Future modules may contain the
following:  
  1: Katakana (similar to the Hiragana module)     
  2: Kanji (several disk set containing several hundred
     Kanji characters, with more to be added as they are
     developed.
  3. Japanese words and phrases.
  4. Kanji-Tration, a game where the user matches the
     Kanji with the romaji, and hears the word or phrase
     spoken.  This will include an editor for customizing
     the game.
  5. Possible dictionaries using other languages, such as
     French, Spanish, Esperanto (any Esperanto speakers
     out there?), German, ETC.
  6. A CDTV version including full-motion video! (Depends
     on how much support I get for these programs.)

   The development of these programs depend on the
support and registeration of these programs.

 These programs are written using "CanDo"tm.
(Invotronics).
