Installation: ------------- Copy SoftLock to the c: directory of your HD. From a CLI window execute SoftLock. Since this is the first time you have executed the program, you will need to enter the REAR_DOOR password SHAREWARE. You will be prompted to enter a user password twice. The user password must be between 5 and 15 alphanumeric (a-z & 0-9) characters. When you finish creating the user password the program will end. The password is encoded and is secure from prying eyes. Re-run SoftLock now you will be prompted to change your password, change it or quit. You now know that SoftLockİ runs on you system and you may be a little more comfortable with it. Now continue with the installation. Startup-Sequence for AmigaDos Release 2 : ----------------------------------------- In your "S" directory edit Startup-sequence, adding c:Softlock right after "c:setpatch >NIL:" and "c:version >NIL:" which will make it the third item. Startup-Sequence for AmigaDos Release 1.3 : ------------------------------------------- In your "S" directory edit startup-sequence, adding c:Softlock right after "c:SetPatch >NIL: r ;patch system functions" which should make it the second item. DIRECTIONS: ----------- Once you have completed the installation of SoftLockİ warm boot the system. You will be prompted to enter a user password. When you finish, startup will continue. Running SoftLockİ from a CLI allows you can change the user password anytime if you know the old password or the REAR_DOOR password. Every time the system is booted the user will be prompted for the user password (although the REAR_DOOR password can be entered). The user will only have three chances to enter the correct password. If the user makes 3 invalid attempts, the program goes into a loop and the only way out is to reboot. SoftLockİ will needs to write on the HD and prompt the user if the sys: disk is write protected. If the user doesn't correct the trouble, it's loop time. Every access attempt that fails for any reason has the date and time recorded. Once the user gives the correct password, the program checks if any previous access's have been denied, if so the date and time will be displayed to the user. So whenever an authorized user boots up, they will be notified of any unauthorized access attempts. SECURITY: --------- Total security is not possible, but this program can keep most people out. The computer illiterate and the computer novice will be able to break into your system. Only the advance HACKER might sooner or later break in. The key to the SoftLockİ Security System is that it is executed from your startup-sequence as instructed above. SHAREWARE: ---------- Feel free to distribute this entire package intact.
