------------------------------------------------------------------- VerseWise Amiga v1.0 Copyright Bruce Geerdes 1991 August 13, 1991 ------------------------------------------------------------------- VerseWise is a Bible output/search program for the Amiga. This Gospel version contains the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. If you would like the whole New Testament, or the whole Bible, see the information at the end of this file. (1) Archive contents (2) Copyright info (3) Summary of commands (4) VerseWise Copy & Paste (5) Information about VerseWise ------------------------------------------------------------------- (1) Archive contents This archive ("vrswise.lzh") contains eleven (11) files: VW VW.info VW.doc VW.doc.info VWData.info VWData/data.boo VWData/data.cha VWData/data.gos VWData/data.loo VWData/data.num VWData/data.ver ------------------------------------------------------------------- (2) Copyright info The Gospel version of VerseWise is freely distributable: feel free to make as many copies as you like and distribute it to whomever you please. HOWEVER: you may not alter the archive or the files therein. Nor may you make a profit by selling copies. VW (VerseWise) uses the King James Version of the Bible, which is in the public domain. Thus, any scripture outputted by VW may also be freely copied and distributed. ------------------------------------------------------------------- (3) Summary of commands All of VW's functions are available through the Menus, and are (I hope!) self-explanatory. VERSEWISE ABOUT - Current version, my address. HELP - Not much, really. The only keys not explained anywhere else! QUIT - You may also quit by hitting the main window close gadget. Very helpful if you want to immediately quit when the menu option is "ghosted" (not available). GO TO VERSE - Allows you to immediately jump to a specific scripture reference. For the book, begin typing in the name and it should appear in [brackets] after a couple key-strokes. The up & down cursor keys may be used to scroll through the available books. When entering the chapter and verse, the up & down cursor keys may also be used to scroll through the values, while the left & right cursor keys jump you to the lowest and highest value available. SEARCH NEXT - Finds next verse in specified range that contains the word or words you have defined. CURRENT - Jumps you back to the current find. Convenient if you started wandering around after finding a verse and don't know how to get back. PREVIOUS - Jumps back to a previous verse that contained the word or words you defined. Note that this is not a "backward" search. You have to have already searched forward to return to previous finds. WORD - Define the words you are looking for. You may define up to ten (10) words. A found verse will contain all of these words. Begin typing in word; hit RETURN when it appears in [brackets]. Words definition and searches are case sensitive. RANGE - Define the search range. It saves time to limit searches to single books, or parts of books, if that is all you are interested in. Your range will be "invalid" if the beginning scripture appears in the Bible after your ending scripture. OUTPUT FILE - Define the file you want to output to. The default filename is "ram:vw_output.txt". SCREEN - Copies text in current window to file. RANGE - Output range to file (from single verses to whole books). APPEND - If this is toggled on, outputted text will be appended to file. Otherwise, anything previously in the file will be overwritten. FORMATTED - If toggled on, the text will be written to file as it appears on screen. (One can vary the line lengths by changing the width of the window.) Otherwise, it will be written to file as one line, with a space between each verse. ------------------------------------------------------------------- (4) VerseWise Copy & Paste There are no internal functions in VerseWise to copy scriptures and paste them into word processors or terminal programs. However, there are several external utilities available that allow you do so, such "PowerSnap" and "Osnap". Check sources of public domain and shareware software for these programs. ------------------------------------------------------------------- (5) Information about VerseWise VerseWise is also available in "New Testament" and "whole Bible" versions. New Testament: $15 (one disk) Whole Bible - hard disk version: $25 (three disks) (installation program included) Whole Bible - floppy disk version: $25 (four disks) If you want the whole Bible, please specify whether you want the HARD DISK version or the FLOPPY DISK version. If you do not have a hard disk you will not be able to access the whole Bible at once. You will have three sections (Old Testament 1, Old Testament 2, New Testament), and will have to open each individually in order to view and/or search them. VerseWise can run on a 512k system. As far as different versions of the Amiga operating system go, if the Gospel version runs on your current configuration, the NT and WB versions will also. If the Gospel version does not run on your system, please let me know. The "New Testament" and "whole Bible" versions of VerseWise may not be distributed by anyone other than the author.
