At the moment a Telecom Employee with suitable I.D. can have access to your
premises. He/she will not enter your premises without you being present.
He/she cannot confiscate anything not belonging to Telecom. He can remove
anything from the Telecom network that is causing faults. From October 1 {87}
house wiring etc. is being deregulated and for a 50c reduction in rental per
month your house wiring and equipment can be ypur problem. Telecom will sell
plugs, jacks, phones, etc or will allow equipment with a Telepermit to be
attached to the network. At the moment phones and things that you see in
supermarkets and service stations are generally junk and will probably not
conform to the required standard. The guts of all this is that what is your
property cannot be stolen off you by Telecom. However, if you have something
attached to the line that does not meet Telecom's standard, then any problems
you have, cannot be solved by Telecom

Good comment..... Having had the experience from the former Radio inspectors
branch of the NZPO I know just what they can and cannot do, as to the
comments being made about Telecom,s removing equipment from a certain users,
home I find this rather strange, unless as you stated, the equipment was the
property of Telecom. And they would need a search warrant and be in the
company of a POLICEMAN to be able to remove equipment from any persons
property. Also if you registered with Telecoms to use VAPNET obviously they
know wether you use a modem or not.
 If you are using a modem that is not type approved surely if you bought it
 from a retailer in NZ it is the  retailer who is at fault for selling the
 equipment in the first place, unless he/she advised you that the equipment
 was not type approved, and in that case he/she should be selling them for
 next to nothing..... DO THEY THOUGH!!!! ???? NO I HEAR YOU SAY....... Regards
