*********************************************************************** * * * * * Documentation for LOG-BOOK Program by VK3CHP. * * * * © Copyright 1990 - Rev.Arend Venema Snr. * * * * * *********************************************************************** This LOG-BOOK program is designed to give you the opportunity to use your Amiga Computer for keeping a record of your QSO's and to print- out your QSL-Card's and more..... First of all, click the Icon for the Radio-Log program and after the program is loaded, press the HELP key. By pressing the F2 key, your com- puter will start up the Change-Heading-Program. This program prepares the data-files containing all the information such as your Call-Sign and the files for keeping a record of your QSO's etc. etc. 1. Type in YOUR -> CALL-SIGN <- followed by [ Return ] 2. Type in a -> 1 <- followed by [ Return ] (Warning... Do this only once when you set up your program, if you type in a 1 after you have used your Log-Book program it will wipe out all previous entered information... that is... if you press the ESC key. 3. Type in -> 100 <- followed by [ Return ] for Increase space on Data-File to...... You can choose a higher or lower number but 100 will be alright since the computer automatically increases your file space when your enter info to your logbook. 4. Type in -> 31 <- or lower/higher number for page length for the print-out of your records. (30 is A4 size.) Each number in- or decresed the length of your page by 2 lines. 5. Move the cursor around by pressing the {Return} key and follow the instructions on the display sreen. Before you use the LOG-BOOK Program play around with this program by changing the heading etc. etc. * * * * LOG-BOOK PROGRAM * * * * To use your Radio-Log Program double-click the Icon and your pro- gram will appear on the screen. * * * HELP and FUNCTION KEYS.... The Top shows LOGBOOK plus your Heading..... Press the HELP-Key and the functions of the FUNTION-KEYS are displayed at the bottom-part of the screen. To use the Function-keys or the Help-key the cursor >HAS< to be at the left-most position. Use the help-key as many time you want to, the program clear the space automatically. * * * MONTH & YEAR.... The screen automatically shows the current month and year as set by you in the preferences. If you want to change or update your logbook you can set the month and year yourself by using the F4 key, do not for- get to change the month and year back to present month & year after use. * * * High No. & NUM.... High No. displays the Highest Record Number after saving a record with your F6 key. and/or after the start-up of your program. Num displays the record and/or line current in use. you need these numbers when your update your program etc.. * * * CURSOR MOVEMENTS...... Use the BLACK-ARROW KEYS to move the cursor from left to right, you can only use the UP and DOWN arrow keys when the cursor is in the LEFT-MOST position. When you use the up and down keys the NUM display changes and the record (if any) of that number will be displayed. You can also use the [Return-key] to move the cursor BUT.... if you do so the current date and time and previously used frequency will be entered automatically. This function is very handy to enter your info fast to the screen but be aware that if you have entered info with the keyboard you have to use the black arrow keys to move over the info you have entered. * * * DATE....... To enter the DATE press the RETURN Key or enter the Day-Date by yourself. If number is lower then 10 the 0 will be added automaticly. The Current month will be stored in your data record as shown on the display screen at the top. * * * CALLSIGN..... Enter the Callsign in the appropriate collumn, after entering - the program will search for a previous entry and if found, will display this at the bottem of your screen plus the number of times you have worked the caller before, also the COUNTRY related to the CALLSIGN will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. * * * TIME.... Enter time by pressing the Return-key or key in yourself as follows: 09:02 type 902 00:02 type 2 12:34 type 1234 Don't forget to use ONLY the black ARROW-keys if you enter the time via the keyboard ! ! ! * * * FREQUENCY..... If you have entered a frequency in the previous record, then by pres- sing the RETURN-Key you can enter the same frequency again. You can enter the frequency yourself via the keyboard as follows: 14.345 type 14345 3.605 type 3605 etc. Remember to use the BLACK ARROW KEYS ! ! ! * * * SIGNAL REPORTS..... Enter for SSB two digits like 59 becomes 5-9 Enter for CW three digits like 599 stay 599 When you print-out your QSL CARD the computer recognised the (-) and printout the appropriate MODE used, like SSB or CW. * * * NAME & QTH........ If you have made a previous contact then the Name & Qth are already displayed, otherwise enter in the information in the appropriate column. IF Name or QTH is to long the computer bleeps and moves the cursor back. * * * QSL reply...... In the QSL column a + is displayed if the entry is a first contact, if worked before a - is displayed. After you have printed out your QSL card the + changes into - . * * * QSL confermation.... To registar the receipt of a QSL card in your logbook enter the CALL-SIGN on a empty line on your screen. At the lower part of the sreen the information about that CallSign will be displayed with on the right the record entry number. Press the F3 Key.. enter the record number and press the F7 key. (You don't have to save this line with the f6 key, in this case the computer does it for you) In the QSL collumm a * will be recorded, this "*" will also be printed out in your lists.... ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS save your information by pressing the F6 key... If you use the UP and DOWN black-arrow keys after entering info WITHOUT having saved that info to your record file the information is lost and you have to enter it al over again....... Note: Cursor has to be in the leftmost position for use of FUNCTION-KEYS ! NEVER......NEVER.....NEVER switch off your computer before SAVING all data to your FILES by PRESSING --->: F1 KEY - you save ALL DATA but can still continue using the screen. F10 KEY - you SAVE ALL DATA and leave your program. DO NOT SWITCH OFF YOUR COMPUTER WHILE THE DISK LIGHT IS ON ! ! ! * * * WHEN YOU HAVE NOT SAVED ALL DATA ........ If you have not saved ALL data to your files before switching off then the next time the screen comes up you have to save your previous entries one by one with the F6 KEY. After done so, you can continue with youre entries and DO NOT forget to save your data with the F1 or F10 KEY before you switch the computer off. * * * CHANGING INFORMATION..... If you want to change previously entered information use the F3 KEY. Make sure the right month & year is on the top of the screen, if not, use the F4 KEY to change Month & Year first (Don't forget to change back) You can change all information on the row where the cursor is moving on. After you have changed the info, PRESS the F6 Key ! ! and SAVE it. * * * PRINTOUTS........ You can Printout ALL the entered information in different ways. USE THE HELP KEY TO LOOK AT THE DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS. Follow the instructions after pressing the KEYS.... This program is geared for a EPSON LX-850 Printer, however if you use a different brand of printer you may have to alter the program itself for the printout of you QSL card. First place the card in the printer and after you enter "Y" the card will be printed out. Turn the Card around and then PRESS any key for a printout of CALL=-SIGN in right Upper Corner. Logbook is written in AMIGA-BASIC and changing the contents of the QSL-Card print-out will not be to difficult for a expert programmer, ask a friend to help you if you can not do it yourself, but always try on your BACK-UP copy. The routine to be changed can be found in the LABEL QSLCARD: * * * NOTE..... Your Logbook program will not work properly on some earlier versions of the Workbench, if this is the case, do get the latest version of Workbench V 1.3.2 Revision 34.28 from your Amiga Dealer. Note also that when your enter your first lines the progrom seems to be a little slow, but this will inprove after a couple of entries. I tested the program thoroughly for bugs but if you encounter any please let me know, suggestions are also most welcome. * * * SHAREWARE NOTES.....
