WELCOME TO THE WONDERFULL WORLD OF THE PK 232 HOST DRIVER FOR THE                                    AMIGA

Now I have got past the title, best I introduce my self to you.  I am not the author of this piece of software but I have contributed to the production with ideas on layout and the way in which the program works. Steve Davis (G0CYT), Is the one who is responsible for codeing but, Nigel Fenton (GM0JKN) is the perpetrator of this fine explanation of how it all works.

Ok first lets look at the whole layout and see what it all does.

The first time you use this program, you will be ok if the PK 232 has been set up for all your calls, alias, cmsg, and other such settings.   but I think some people will be using this program with the PK for the first time. So lets work with the latter.  Now the first thing you will have to do is set your call, the manual will refer you to the MYCALL command, But to be able to do this you have to be in a mode called COMMAND. This is shown by a prompt..CMD:  With this driver program you never go into COMMAND mode but you are always in HOST mode
Now Steve being clever, has allowed for this, but you will have to either use a different terminal or the clever little one with this disk! to run the COMMAND MODE terminal you have to stop the loading of the main program by pressing (CTRL) D, this as you all know terminates the loading and running of the S/STARTUP-SEQUENCE.  Once you have the AMIGADOS prompt > you type HOST 1, This will load the terminal program in a diferent way so that you will be in COMMAND MODE. Now you can set up all your parameters.

For all those that have used the PK 232 before, this program will I think make you a little lazy !!!  It is so easy to use!!! all selections are made from the pull down menues at the top of the screen.  Ihis is why the program is so good for me anyway. The PK 232 will always, on startup of the program, be in the last mode when switched off. 

I feel I must explain that some of the commands in the pull downs are not yet implemented as there is a certain program out that looks like the pkpacratt for the AMIGA.  I haven't seen this program yet but if it is anything like the PC version it may not be as USER FRIENDLY as this driver.  Steve is still working on the codeing for some commands,but most work very well, enough that is, so that you will get the general feel of the driver.

Now to the crunch.  This program is FREE and we wish you to PASS IT ON to as many friends as possible.  If you like it, well use it but it is only in it's infant stages at the moment.  We have most commands covered (thought out) but not implemented.  This will I feel get a Better response for feed back of the program and may be (I doubt!) some ideas on some changes ie., would you like a Text editor so that you can prepare a text off line (so that you will lower time on the Mailboxes with text input etc).  Also you can check for speeeeeling mistakes ! so you dont look a wally when you send a bulitin to ALL @ GB with bad grammer like wot ive done ere!(throughout this entire text!).

Ok, I think that the two hardest modes to use are PACKET and AMTOR, though packet at first looks hard it realy is a doddle! the thing that may confuse you at first is there are two active screens, the first is the MONITOR screen, ie., this screen will only monitor what is flying around on the frequency and will not allow you to transmit.  The MONITOR screen is always active.  This sounds strange but I can assure you this is realy advantagous.  If you select the second screen by moving the mouse over the box with number zero in it, you will be taken to the split screen,the top is incomeing, the bottom is outgoing.  The split screen will only monitor who you are connected to, so if you want to see who is blocking your packets you can dodge between the monitor and connect screens, quite handy realy!.  You will also notice that there are some other things in the title bar these will enable you to see how the packets are doing ie how many retries and also how many packets are outstanding.  The shift and baud is displayed in the title bar.  These are handy so you can see if when you are on HF, you are using the correct shift and baud, very quickly.  There are pull down menus but I will let you play with them and they are self explanitary.

Now to the hardest, the AMTOR mode.  This is only hard as I don't realy know every thing there is to know about amtor,( but who does ).
  I think that as I don't know all the protocals for amtor the pull down menus will realy explain themselves to you!  If you want you can also use the amiga hot keys, ie., the right amiga key with R for force RX amiga D for end of text return to RX.  Things like that happen in all the modes. I feel that you will have to play with the amtor mode but if you are like me you will have many hours of fun in QSO with this mode.

I will make a plea!!  If there is some one who understands how the PK 232 sends its fax info down the serial line then please send the info as we will try to enable on screen edit of incomming fax.  We havent put much on the fax side of things as ICS have the fax board and software which is far better than the PK 232 can produce (a shame it hasn't been incorporated in the PK 232!(take note ICS!)).  There should be a copy going to Bob G3LMH to be distributed around the AMIGANS group.  This way I feel it will get to the right people in the states as quick as possible.
